I've installed a few network drops in homes, where they didn't like the connection they were getting using that sort of device. I keep my PS3 on wireless, just because I've had no problems with it.

If it's an old property or one will alot of interference, yeah, I'd guess you're right. Still, if you're lucky to be able to use them, they're an option.
Yeah, I heard about that being able to happen with the PC. Never knew it was possible for X-Box 360 Ethernet port. At least it lived.
And isn't wifi connection pretty lousy if in another room? I know we had to bring the WiiU over in the main room for day one update to even come close to standing a chance, but I also heard the WiiU wi-fi isn't that good too on the ME3mp forums. When I tried to play ME3mp on the WiiU, I had the WiiU literally humping the router and the disconnection rate was still crazy during most hours of the day. At better times I could maybe get in a match or two every now and then to see in game pay day (which is badly needed when you start out because you have nothing unlocked. So it was such a frustrating nightmare playing WiiU online. Wouldn't of been so bad if that freaking official Ethernet to USB adapter were available in major store chains like EB games at least. When I went to the first EB and asked for it the dude was like "They have those? Because man, I'm losing connection like crazy too." lol. And lol for me because the store didn't have it). Man, there's no excuse why a WiiU shouldn't be fully functionable out of the box. What a disaster of a console on so many levels.
My brother now has an Ethernet cord all they way to his room for all his Internet needs. Especially since he games online on PC too. WiiU on the other hand, still a non-functional online machine for us. And we don't care anymore, because we gave up on it and went to the competition instead. Up yours, Nintendo.
Don't most power bars with a power switch on it offer surge protection too?
Yeah, if you have a really crappy wireless router. I had a 256 Mega Byte update on my PS3 for Resistance 3. It took less than 10 minutes to download on my 75 Mb internet connection using the wi-fi setup for the PS3.
If you really want to check out just how good your wi-fi connection is, assign a static IP to the device you're using with the connection. Open up a command prompt with a PC that is wired to the router and type in that IP like this ping 192.168.1.16
Check out how many milliseconds each ping takes, and if there are any dropped packets.
Your brother upgraded his setup, huh?
