Pardon my asking - but I'm curious to know. With the exception of games with only a standard ending, when a title has a 'best' or 'special' ending - are you:
A Completionist: play the game, beat the game, whatever ending, consider it done.
or
A Perfectionist: doesn't matter how many times it takes, finish every aspect of the game possible, achieve best ending.
With that asked - what game did you spend the most time pouring into to get that 'best' ending? Was it worth it?
I like to try being a perfectionist, unless it's mega frustrating then I might just give in! I like to try and see each ending, good bad or otherwise, the Silent Hill games are going to cause me equal parts pleasure and pain I think.
Depends on the game. There's no one answer to that. Some games, if they are good, I want to see/do everything. I'll try for every ending, everything you can do, etc.
Others I just don't care. I get through it, and that's enough for me.
Yeah, for me it really depends on the game. I will say though, that I rarely have the patience for multiple endings if it means having to play through the game again and again. But I do try to collect everything (get to 100%) if it's not too time-consuming or frustrating. The Gran Turismo games are examples in which I don't even try to do everything, especially since they include ridiculous goals like the 24-hour and extensive B-spec races.
One thing I've noticed is that generally when I reach the ending of the story, I really feel like moving on to another game. So I try to reach that 100% (including DLC if it's a GOTY edition or whatever) in the first playthrough if at all possible. I actually get a bit annoyed when there are things you can't do until you've finished the story - except for something understandable like unlocking a harder difficulty.
yeah, i kinda game my backlog this way - if im not gonna beat it/dont wanna, its null. if i get the ending, it's complete. if i go back & try to platinum/etc it, it's mastered. "beat" is only for games i either cheated or co-op'd, complete is when i see credits & say i'm done! way too many games to be a stickler on stuff i don't enjoy, or won't if i make a chore of it.
Most games have the same ending regardless. I play to enjoy.I play to win. If the experience is significantly different otherwise, then I consider spiking up the difficulty. Otherwise, I play to enjoy and win ;).
I play for fun. some games I've never beaten because they stop being fun.
I checked "perfectionist" since I will pursue everything a game has to offer from time to time. That's S-ranks in Mischief Makers for the challenge and see the best ending and all the treasures and everything in Kirby Super Star. This is only if I really enjoy the game though and find these extra challenges interesting enough on their own. I have no interest in speedrunning through Metroid for the best ending or playing the expert mode in Castlevania Bloodlines.
Pretty interesting. I meant to add a third 'Depends on the game' option but that'd make it too easy on all of you, haha.
The reason I ask - I sometimes wonder if I'm obsessive about truly finishing a game. For me, it feels like finishing a book knowing that I've skipped a few chapters. I feel almost guilty about it! Wanted to know if it's anyone else relates or if this is a new OCD for me besides having to have the light switch down when the light is off and switch up when the light is on...

these are some games that are great examples for me. I enjoyed playing Metroid/II/Super - but I'm terrible at Metroid and don't care enough to play them several times over to see Samus in a bikini... And Bloodlines - Still my favorite Castlevania, but having seen the expert ending... it's so lame. Very little incentive in that regard. But both excellent examples.Quote:
