NOT could of/should of/would of!
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to QuickSciFi again.
Nice apostrophe use there too. I want to rep you more than I've ever wanted to rep anyone!
While we're at it: The biggest one where I live is people getting borrow and lend arse about face.
I love it when people's posts about the stupidity of others are riddled with syntax, spelling, and grammatical errors. ARE is not possessive people.
I've never actually seen this posted online. Maybe some people I've talked to have actually said it, but I didn't realize. :P
I hear/see irregardless and irregardlessly frequently and there is a certain age ("millennials"?) of which everyone younger literally does not understand the difference and definitions of there/their/they're.
Your welcome!
I could care less about it being should have or should of, their is no issue to be had theyre. ;)
This is one of those mistakes that only native speakers make because they learn the language phonetically first and foremost.
What I've seen gain a lot more traction lately is using "worse" when they really mean "worst". Probably because the t is silent.
^ What about the rest of us that aren't born in Canada/US? Does being bilingual excuse us too?
I think a lot of these issues come about because people read less these days.
I read a lot on the internet. So no. It's because English is BS. Too much of it doesn't sound like it's spelled. Back when I was in Romania I went to German school instead of Romanian school. Yet I can still read Romanian having never been taught it, because it reads exactly like it sounds.
Exactly, most languages are like that, quite sensibly so :). English is such a mongrel tongue that plays quite loose with convention, but there are still some conventions under it all. No disrespect to you, but I don't feel reading on the internet to be the same as reading well written novels and the like, which will give much more depth into the use of English. That's what I had in mind when I made my comment about people reading less these days.
That used to be the case, I'm from the last generation that was taught phonics in Canada. My Brother is 3 years younger and was taught to just memorize what words look like.
Just in case you don't mean that Ts are often silent in Swedish, the T in "worst" definitely is [b]not[/ b] silent. :p
I hear a lot of Ts being dropped in certain American accents; keeping it video gamey you here CJ do it a lot in GTASA: 'After five years on the Eas' coas'...'
