Mass Effect Andromeda

I should have gotten an X-Box One instead of waiting for Scorpio. Sony has no actual gamers working for them designing their stuff. 2017 and they still can't design a proper controller and user interface. At first I thought UI was better then PS3 because at least this time it wasn't lagging. But now there's an extra menu layer, and guess what? The one that has to do with communicating with other players is furthered away. Resulting in too many button presses to communicate with other players via text when switching between in-game and party chat/pm msgs. That and the UI for typing and sending msg isn't that good either.

Conclusion. I don't think I ever want to buy another Sony console ever again. Screw wasting another 100$ for that Chrono's to get an X-Box controller to play on PS4. Once Scorpio drops, I'm either boxing or selling my PS4. If I can wait that long, as the idea of refunding this thing now for an X-Bone sounds appealing before I put in too many hours into MEAmp.

Another issue I found out with PS4 while playing yesterday is that the dumb built in batteries in that dumb Dual Shock 4 don't even last near an entire day of gaming after full charge when I started. I was pissed because first my Turtle Beach headset batteries gave me it's warning that batteries were gonna die, but it was immediately followed by the DS4 battery life warning. I was like "What? Already? You've got to be kidding me?!" So now I had to scramble to switch batteries in one and rush to untangle a USB cord for another. All while playing a tense online game where I couldn't pause.


lol, I'm reading the bright light at the back of DS4 is one of the issues draining the batteries. Way to prioritize style over actual gaming once again, you idiots working at Sony. I mean, seriously, this gamepad had no battery life at all. And there is nothing you can do about it because it's built in battery. It's total garbage. Stop praising this garbage controller, people.

How Sony get away with the controller battery life?

In this Gamespot forum topic, buddy complains about DS4 barely lasting like 6 hrs VS X-Bone 30 or so. Course some Sony fanboy replies;

Add further insult to injury is the short USB cable that Sony gives you straight out of the PS4 box, lol. "Enjoy your gaming, you pyjacks!" I can't almost hear Sony say.

What?! 3-4 hours while party chatting with mic?! That's right, mic plugs into DS4, have yet to try it. Oh man, this controller is laughably bad.

And that's right, it also has a speaker on it. Remember it beeping a few times while playing MEA sp.


So let me get this straight; design a weak built in battery, then add all these extra battery draining features to it (bright light, mic, speaker, touch screen, rumble) and bundle with very short USB cord. Genius Sony design. Everyone gets a raise!

Batteries. Yes yes the batteries.. don't like the most everything runs on batteries on these days.

The Dual Shock 3 battery can be replaced I have done this once so far to my original DS3. I did not but one can install a higher Milliamp Hour (mAh) battery that lsats longer.

I quite enjoy the XB1 interface in general. The one it shipped with on launch was absolutely much worse.. and I'm glad they changed it.

The home screen gives you most of what you need with minimal clutter. You can tap left and bring up friends, groups, achievements, messages, settings, and snap settings.
To the right is your game/app library, the current gold features, and a few advertisements.

It's not perfect, but it's functional. In a lot of ways it's essentially the old blades 30 interface now, just a bit sleeker.

My biggest complaints:
There needs to be an "update all" button for apps and games. It's a pain to have to either go in and manually update them, or just wait for when you use them for them to update. I understand why they don't just update by default (data caps and such), but for those of us who don't care, I'd like a "always keep my apps up to date" button or option I could check.

The other complaint is actually the game store. It's functional... but I think it's better broken up (and therefore easier to browse) on the 360.

And thanks for that tip, EyeDee. But I think I'm happy bailing on Sony entirely. They want to keep these idiotic design philosophies, then let them while I jump ship to another console permanently.

I'm an Rayovac guy my self. But yeah I get it's not as easy as just opening a door.

Depends. If you have the kinect (I got one with my XB1 since my ex loved dance central) it takes 0 presses, since you just say show that or whatever. Or even to snap messages.

Without one? Depends if you catch the notification or not.
If you do you can press a button to bring it up.

If not, menu, press left (d pad or analog), and and down 3 times to get to the messages themselves.

So 0-4 buttons depending on the exact situation.

If you have the chatpad you can also map the messenger to it, so one press to bring it up regardless of where/how as well. I love the chatpad and have since the 360 one. The XB1 is the same, except more useful.

I wish the game store had a "recently searched" feature or at least a cart or something so I could keep track of games I'd like to get at some point without having to type them out and search every time.

They just need a bookmarks/favorite section.

But I enjoyed how the 360 one was broken into arcade/indy and full release sections, along with easy categories you could sort by.

XB1 is just all lumped together with only a few broad categories. The search feature is better, but I much prefer the 360's way.

And to get back onto ME:A
I see some talk about patching, and fixing the character creation at some point.
I'd love to see them put in the work to make this game what it should be.

But it still doesn't excuse the way it was released.

I also hear the soundtrack is a bit...bland... which is a shame because ME always had an excellent and distinct sound to it.

About MEA, I have to say I'm still hooked to multiplayer. It's all I'm playing. They really revamped the gameplay to the point that it almost feels like a new game. And a lot of issues in ME3mp have been addressed. I highly recommend everyone buy this game just for multiplayer alone. I personally can't wait to see how it will be expanded upon with DLCs and what not. Already the game had a new map (for Apex missions only so far) and new character released just today. And it's not even a DLC. Looks like real good times ahead.

Gameplay is also the main reason I play and replay the heck out of Mass Effect, and the gameplay in MEA seems really solid. Fan of RPGs or not, if you love fun gameplay, get this now.


Also, glad I was able to start it from release. With ME3mp I only started just before last (5th) DLC was released. Now I get to be part of the discovery as players get more skilled, learn new game mechanics, witness new DLCs, etc.

Never had any issues with the DS4 battery life myself.

It's shorter than Xbox One, but you don't need to pay the expense of replacing the batteries. That adds up.
