Alcoholics Anonymous thread.

Way I quite smoking this last time was just quite buying cigarette packs completely. I would only buy them individually when I'm out and about and I happen to see smokers and didn't smoke at home. Simple. Kept this up for about half a year, then from that the final step was much easier due to reduced nicotine addiction and everyday habit.

For me it's usually coke and Beerenburg.

QuickSciFi I'm very curious. How do you feel about people who vape or whatever it's called. Some of my friends do it, and they label it as some superior addiction alternative, though all of them moved onto cigarettes eventually. Sounds like same old addiction to me. Not to mention that the industry isn't regulated at all, and it was recently found in research that formaldehyde is indeed formed as a degradation product of propelyne glycol when it heats up, a core ingredient in the vape process.

To this day, I don't understand why someone would willfully addict themselves to something that costs money. What the hell.

As a doctor, I'm not completely opposed to it, though it's more of a fad than anything else. As a former smoker of 10+ years, I'd say quit cold turkey like I did.

I don't smoke on a regular basis, but I do smoke when I'm drinking. I think I got into that habit from inhaling tons of second hand smoke while in night clubs. It didn't help that my dad was a smoker until he was around 40. I remember many a ride where dad was smoking in the car and in the house as well.

Social/pub smokers isn't exactly a rare thing, I know a ton of people who only smoke when they're out.

I rarely smoke at home myself.

I start craving a cigarette when I have a buzz. I don't crave them until alcohol has stunted my inhibitions.

That what they call it when you start to feel a little funky. I haven't touched the funny cigs is quite a while.

I get drunk a few times a week. Usually just microbrews but I like scotch, absinthe, you name it. I'd like to cut way back in my thirties so I don't pickle my brain like my older brother. I burn the reef daily, no plans to stop that anytime soon(I prefer to vape it or to do edibles). I started doing both (drinkn n tokin) when I was pretty young, never really slowed down. I started semi regularly smoking cigs in my 20's. The last 2 years I became a pretty regular cig smoker, but still under a pack a day. Actually I'll go a day or two without any, then I'll go to my friend's house & have some beers and I'll chainsmoke a whole pack. I've tried quitting constantly the last few years. I actually quit just the other day (again) but I keep an e cig handy for any pesky cravings that pop up. I'd like to think I've got it beat this time, but I know I'll inevitably relapse eventually, so the real goal is to just keep it cut down to a minimum as best I can. I play a lot of basketball at the gym and at local parks so Im sick of ruining my lungs.

The side effect list is massive, lol, but the one I remembered was the most bizarre dreams I've ever had by a longshot (you literaly wake up like Kenau Reeves going "Whoa, that was crazy." No joke. That bizarre. Why I tell people to try it just for those crazy, crazy dreams you'll ever have). But that was my first successful time quitting smoking. Only ruined it later by thinking I could handle a cig every now and then. At least it was a good lesson learned. Now that I've successfully quit a second time (this time without champix aid), no way I'm falling for that again. :p


On the not being able to avoid smoking while drinking matter... even a friend of mine who's in the quitting process too, always gives up to smoking temptation when drinking without even trying, then goes the next few days back to his non-smoking routine. And I have to wonder if people like this are basically just giving up for the sake of the perfect excuse to smoke. Because when I drink, I find it easier to stay away from smoking because drinking beer is keeping me busy. As I find as long as you're busy with something, then it takes your mind off smoking. Plus since smoking is great for socialising, drinking fits that void perfectly. - The other thing keeping me off smoking is the fact that if I lit up a smoke now, I know it would give me zero satisfaction since satisfying that nicotine craving is the main satisfaction of smoking (basically why Champix works, since it slowly removes that nicotine satisfaction part).
