Well I've got deflemask installed now, so I'm set to have a go at this! Although I'm not the worlds most amazing musician lol Making and publishing a Sega Mega Drive game including music is first on the list of things to do after completing my PhD.

Added a new VGM compilation for the XGM player and updated the Rom builder tool as well (see the first message) :)
Some people reported me some playbacks issues with some MD models (JAP VA0 seems to have random hangs/freeze issues).
For those who are concerned by these issues, can you please report me here what are the problems observed and what is the model of your megadrive ?
That would be greatly appreciated :)
Here is the classic XGM player using the usual XGM driver for reference : http://ow.ly/Z5Fm303X1XW
I made a slightly different version which should be safer : http://ow.ly/IAye303X4AS
If you meet issues with the first version test the second one and report me if it makes any difference, thanks :)
SEGA IC BD M5 PAL (VA6)
Everything works perfectly fine, even with increased tempo from standart 50 to 60.
Only problem I see is PCM's :)
There's actually something wrong with V3
Blue Sphere and Ice Cap zone 1 VGM's from Sonic 3 crashes player. :(
Yeah, this was a bug from the xgmtool that I should have fixed now. If you replace XGMTool by the one from SGDK GitHub folder it should fix the issue.
Still doesn't quite work,
Check PM.
Indeed ! Another problem this time (PCM frame shifting causing overflow). It's fixed, just re download the XGM ROM builder tool, it contains a new xgmtool to fix the problem :)
Well, even when nothing can be done with low res source samples, shouldn't this player improve samples playback on some melodies filled with them?
Maybe you could do a compilation with selected tracks from Sonic 3, Ristar or stuff like Skitchin. Also, is it feasible to replace samples on this format for others with better bitrate?
Hey, any news?
I found one last bug.
Pal/NTSC selector in rom maker makes no change. It's a shame, as there are VGM's which are supposed to be in clock/tempo/speed 50, but they play in 60 on NTSC consoles and vice versa (all VGM's play in 50 instead of 60 on PAL consoles). Can this be fixed, that you can set their default clock?
As this is related, maybe you can make option in xgm rom maker to set custom clocks for VGM's, because if one song is made in clock 50 and next one is made in clock 63 (for vgms made using Deflemask for example), it's not convenient to change clocks in the player for each track.
P.S. This post also is intended as a free bump. I'm using this program daily and are amazed by all the hard work put in this amazing XGM player and ROM maker. Best thing - it's still progressing and evolving. :)
Thanks for reporting :) I will try to fix the issue about NTSC/PAL flag which does not work on the XGM Rom Builder. Allowing custom timing will be more difficult though as XGM format is not made for that.
About the PCM rewrite stuff, well that will take a long time honestly ! Because i mostly need to rewrite the converter from scratch (writing it in java this time for easier debugging). And currently i'm very busy so i think i won't be able to work on that before sometime :-/
Is there any progress made, Stef? :p
