I think the late '90s and early '00s were the worst for what we call 'retro gaming' today. I remember trying to find a way to play the old Genesis classics on my DC because I didn't have a Genesis back then, and I simply couldn't find any.

btw I really find it disappointing how almost no retro videos are uploaded by digital foundry while they constantly upload videos of xbone vs ps4pro and which versions looks in which area 2.5% better than the other while fanboy flamewars erupt below the video. and it's not like those retro videos are poorly watched either. when was their last update? july?
Lobotomy was bought out by Cave in 98 though and damn they're dead. I find it utterly astonishing that they had a working port of Quake for the PSx and couldn't find a publisher. But I do wonder why SoA didn't buy them out considering they made 3 of the absolute best performing American made games. I was a bit angry they bought Visual Concepts considering all the mediocre games they had on the Saturn but that did work out well on the DC.
I agree, Lobotomy should never have been put into that poistion after the amazing work they did for SEGA. Sega America really should have either bought them outright or invested some cash, buy shares to help them through their cash flow troubles. I had no issues with SOA buying VS at the time, but I really wanted it to be Tiburon after their amazing work on the Madden and Strike Saturn ports
The series of events leading up to DKC was interesting, as was a lot of details along the way, but DFR and the interviewees said a lot of misleading things, seemingly to make it sound as though they were pioneering in everything they did.
I've never understood why people fawn so much over DKC.
A ken its gd but fuk me nae need t rub ur nipples about it, calm the beef min.
What do you mean, there? I mean, yeah, I remember it. It was impressive looking to be sure. But it's not mystical. They used high-powered workstations to make CG and scanned the images in. Imagine if I re-created the Tron lightcycle sequence by directly copying the freeze frames. The only difference is it's original instead of a copy.
DKC series looks great but IMO, graphically speaking, Toy Story on the Mega Drive is the pinnacle of 16bit pre-rendered style platformers.
One thing i liked about DKC 1 and 2 (not 3) is the darker, more "eerie" art style/atmosphere. This is something i didn't like as much in the more recent DKC games by Retro Studios. These are too bright and colorful/cheerful.
