Oh sweet, Flying Battery was an awesome level.
how many zones are now existing ones lifted from older games? It just stinks of lazy and lackluster!
I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that there would be more re-make levels than new ones.
So far it's 2(Green Hill, Flying Battery) and 2(Studiopolis, Mirage Saloon) that we're aware of.
I always took this to be more in the vein of Streets of Rage Remake, except officially backed by Sega.
I'd like to think that ideally Sonic Mania would present 1/3 new levels, 1/3 remixed levels, 1/3 formerly scrapped/resurrected levels, and one Knuckles Chaotix level...
ahhh, I can hear it now...

Combination though...
I really hope a Knuckles Chaotix Door Into Summer level makes it into the game. That'd be amazing.
I haven't followed much on Mania, but I was unaware that it's mostly reused zones (with clearly new touches at least). I'm hoping that if it's a success that Sega works with Whitehead to make a more original new 2D Sonic.
Supposedly the ratio is going to be about 60/40 (old to new) according to this:

Wondering if the plot involves a movie and the reused zones are actually just part of the set...
But yeah I can see people getting ticked off by this, since until now Sega had given the impression it was going to be like a whole new game (even reusing Green Hill was understandable within that context, given how many times they had done it already).
Robotnik pushing Sonic through a series of movie sets to make the ultimate film, eh?
I like this idea.
That's fine IMO. I love the Chaotix enhancements, they really show that this is gonna be good.
SEGA Product Manager Jim Dyer mentioned in an interview that they are aware that people are interested in a physical release, but didn't give a definite answer if it was actually getting one.
Quote:
We would love to do one. We want the community to know that we are listening, and at SXSW they suggested a lot of interest in us following through with a physical release. But we’re also aware that audience approves of anything Sonic related, so while we are listening and it is something we’d like to do, at this stage we are going to see how it goes.
To me when I saw that LE version I thought to myself, Why make this shit without a physical release and only a download code? It made no fucking sense to me..
