I'll buy it if it comes out on Ataribox
This is exactly why I pre-ordered it too. If any of you have seen the item being displayed on stage, It's a pretty substantial piece and i think it looks really nice.
I like it alot more than the First4Figures diorama they designed for Sonic's 25th anniversary: Sure it's big but I just don't like it as a display piece!
I pre-ordered my copy for PS4 yesterday morning at local EB, in truth I went there for another game but while I was there... I don't even know what the statue looks like, nor do I care. As I'm sure it will rock when I read our forum overlord, Melf, mention it's a Sonic on a Sega Genesis - and other then that I want to be surprised. Also why I haven't checked that bonus stage video. Not a fan of removing as many surprises as possible.
Either way, looking forward to this game dropping like the rest of you. It's going to be a great day, I'm a big fan of the original Sonic games on Genesis. Some of my best memories in gaming.
I pre-ordered it because I knew I would want to play it long before it went on any Steam sale, so I figured I'd save the two bucks. The new special stages look absolutely excellent.
Tthat still shot from the video made it look straight out of Sonic Jam. So you can see as to why I'd want to better savor the moment, as a Saturn fan who would have loved a full game out Sonic Jam demo.
I'm also a big fan of the 32-Bit era PS1 & Sega Saturn 3D graphics when done right, though I'm mostly alone on this.
Those holding out for news of a physical release might be happy to hear there might be one for the Nintendo Switch, with an even slighter chance of the other consoles getting one as well:

If it happens, and we do get a physical release, I'm gonna double dip.
The Collector's ed. statue is pretty cool, it's too bad they can't revise those and add in the physical copy, kinda odd/backwards to release a Collector's edition of the digital copy and then go on to release the bare bones physical copy.
Not so strange...this has been stupid common in the PC world for sometime now. I own the collectors edition of Homeworld:Remastered with the Hygarian mothership statue. Has some other cool stuff in it like an art book and a medallion I believe. But the game itself? Yeah...that was provided as a steam digital download only printed on a little crappy card in box...
I bought Doom physical for PC (cheaper than Digital, go figure) and it was literally a DVD with a steam install link on it. The DVD itself didnt even have any of the game on it.
It's not that strange. Games these days are so large that you need at least a Blu-ray to store them on a disc. But how many people have a Blu-ray drive in their PC's? Or any kind of optical drive still for that matter? Right now for PC games it would make even more sense to ship physical copies on a USB flash drive instead, but obviously download codes are cheaper to produce. It's sad that physical media seems to be on the way out, but for PC games I've always had a different sense of value than for console games anyway, so I'm generally okay with it.
What do you guys expect in a world where 74% of videogame sales are digital. This trend is no going away, but only picking up... Steam? (Insert Dr. Evil pic)
Oh I'm excited for this game, very very excited! It looks like the Sonic game I've been waiting for ever since I finished Sonic 3 & Knuckles back in '94! (pauses for a moment to think) So I've actually been waiting for this game for twenty three years...holy shit...
Doom is a 60gb game, no wonder. As Devil N pointed out, blu rays would be ideal, but blue ray drive drives are not common place. It's either loads of DVDs in a box or a download code, and to a publisher, the latter is the better option.
EDIT: 2P Mode revealed:

So that could also mean online 2 player mode too?
