I will not read each one of the previous posts but I'll just say this:
Super Mario World is a well executed standard 8-bit platformer with dull yet flashy 16-bit graphics. Sonic The Hedgehog is worlds apart that shit.

Not really. Hell, a large amount of people feel that Sonic 1 was done BETTER on the Master System.
You won't see a fan game with the budget, license and endorsement this one has.
You arguing strawmen. Nobody said they didn't deliver on what they promised. Nobody said the 're-creation' is news. I'm judging what's released, that's all.
What you've wanted. I wanted a fully original, 2D Sonic title. And I'll criticize the aspects I don't like of this release as opposed to a game I've no interest in and is completely irrelevant to the discussion.
Or good. It means I can tell and I shouldn't be able to.
Actually, it's the perfect mirror of this game. The flaws of one are the merits of the other, and vice versa.
I guess the difference here is between those who prefer tight hop'n'bopping with mostly flat surfaces (ala Mario) and those who prefer the more complex physics with heavily sloped shapes from the Sonic games.
EDIT: also how a lot of people absolutely hate any game that makes you recoil when you get hurt (especially since you can end up in pits effectively turning a normal hit into an instadeath - how bad is this depends on the level design of the particular game).
Aside from personal preferences, I don't see how anyone could advocate the idea that Sonic The Hedgehog isn't a lot more advanced than Super Mario World.
You piss off. Get better.
Eh... people do like the Master System Sonic the Hedgehogs. It's not a stretch of the imagination to say some people prefer them. That being said, Redifer would have to show a bit of proof. Outside of Europe and emulation, who's really played it or even owned them?
That describes my feelings about Mario World. Mario 3 with 16-bit paint. Meh graphics. A forgettable soundtrack. Dull and uninspired despite new things like Yoshi and battery backup. That and the first Donkey Kong Country are severely overrated. Yoshi's Island was better and on par with Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
I can kinda-sorta imagine folks saying the SMS version of Sonic 1 is better if that's what they grew up with, but the Genesis Sonic 1 simply has massive, yawning technical advantages in speed, sight and sound.
@EclecticGroove: As one who's STILL trying to crack the nearly-insoluble nut that is High Seas Havoc without savestates, I can totally agree with what you say. It's funny, Bloody Swamp from Kid Chameleon hardly fazes me, but High Seas Havoc as a whole... ugh!
@JoeRedifier: Well, if you don't like Tails, you're always free to abuse the hell out of his lackluster tag-along AI for cheap yucks. XD
Exactly. It's the difference between a game like Ninja Gaiden, whose design literally revolves around knocking you into death pits or trapping you while enemies keep 'juggling' you and a game like Shinobi, where this is used in the right way: it prevents you from getting cheap-shot to death and also prevents you from doing the same against enemies and especially bosses. There are instances where you can fall for your death, but they are the exception here, not the rule.
