Louisiana Flooding 2016

Hey guys.

I'm at a loss for words right now.

If you haven't heard by now, basically the entire southeastern part of Louisiana is underwater since a freak storm this weekend that shattered just about every single record. My home had four feet of water rushing through it, destroying everything that we didn't pack into the attic. My entire world has been affected. Almost every friend, family member, and coworker I know is experiencing the same thing. The stores I shop at, the restaurants I eat at, all have been damaged. Thousands of people have been rescued, but the death count is rising every day.

I'm not writing this to beg for anything. My family has an RV, we were able to save all our vehicles, I have a smart phone and Internet connection, and my place of employment was not damaged. I know people that lost everything they owned and are currently in shelters. It's amazing how lucky we were even with all the destruction.

I don't know if Melf or the admins are okay with posting a link for this, and if not, I can delete this, but there is an official, legitimate way to get relief for people. There will be aid coming from the government, but if anyone here can donate even the smallest amount, it would go a long way.

If you can't spare the cash, just keep my home state in your thoughts and prayers, if you're the praying type. The smallest gestures mean the most. And as always, stuff can be replaced, people can't. I still have what matters the most.

What a nightmare. So sorry to hear that, bro. Glad you and your family are still ok.

Thanks, man. It's rough. But like I said, most stuff of importance and value is safe. Furniture, books, etc, can be replaced.

On a less serious note: I made sure most of my Sega games were packed away safely! Probably about 10 or so got damaged when the shelf they were on collapsed, but they were mostly cheap sports games. The majority of them stayed high and dry. :)

I wonder if there are any other forum members here from south Louisiana. If so, I hope they are okay. It will be a while before everything fully recovers here, but the worst is just about over.

Is it bad that when I saw this thread the first thing I thought was I hope your games aren't damaged? My brain kind of works like that, then I realise how bad that sounds.

I hope you get sorted as soon as possible, my home town of Kendal recently got flooded out around Christmas (not quite to the same scale as yours, and I don't live there anymore) and I have friends still not home yet.

Haha, thanks guys. It's gonna take a while before it really sets in. It was a truly life-changing event. Gonna start cleaving up today now that the water is gone.

I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering the folks in LA are experiencing. My best regards.

Lol, I thought the same thing. Many things are replaceable, but that doesn't mean you necessarily want to do so.


Glad you are keeping your head above water (pun intended), and your family and livelihood is safe.

Once again, thank you fellow forum members! Went in today with my Dad and Uncle and got a lot cleaned up and out. Only time will tell what Louisiana will make of this moving forward. I'm glad everyone is putting aside differences and pulling together.

It happened on my weekend off, worst weekend off I can remember. Didn't lose anything myself as the waters have to get pretty high to get to me, but a coworker of mine lost everything in her first floor apartment. Made me think of 2012, when my area caught over 20 inches of rain in a span of just 6 hours in the south central part of Louisiana. When another flash flood warning got posted tonight, it was oh no all over again, but thankfully the rain only lasted a short period this time. Probably the most areas I've ever seen flood at the same time in my lifetime down here though.

Crazy thing is, I was talking to someone in Twitter chat about it from California, they are in serious need of rain right now, and he was wishing he could get rain like this. I told him, no you could use some, but nothing of this magnitude.

Good to meet a fellow Louisianan on here, Bloodreign. I'm glad you made it through okay. With a lot of help from family, we've gutted the house, got the lights and running water back, and will be getting a washer and dryer hooked up sometime today. I'm back at work as well, so things are kind of getting to some point of normalcy.
