3DS? I thought we were talking about Fallout 4.

JCU is responding to MrMatthews' comment about obtaining the special edition of Metroid Samus Returns for the 3DS.
This is the legacy edition of the game exclusive to PAL territories:

I watched an unboxing of it the other day. Too bad the 3DS is region locked.
Thief will usually comment on just about anything said by a small group of us (the Random thread people, mainly)... UNLESS, I've noticed, a handheld game is being discussed.
Why you hate handhelds, man? ;)
It annoys me how cool that European special edition is... usually Europe gets shafted by Nintendo in favor of NA.
That used to be the case. Not anymore. In fact Nintendo of Europe has been doing an excellent job producing some of the coolest sh*t for the European market. I really noticed that this was the case beginning with the PAL exclusive release of Project Zero 2: Wii Edition. We never got that game. Nor did we get Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water ... and a Limited Edition to boot!
We got nice collector's editions of Bravely Default and Bravely Second for the 3DS! but they pail in comparison to the version released in Pal regions!
Not a fan of the hanging tab, though.
Yakuza 6
Is it blasphemy to never have played a Yakuza game for a huge Shenmue fan?
Oh, and in keeping with the topic of this thread ... the next game I am looking forward to is "Battle Princess Madelyne". If you are a Ghouls and Ghosts fan, this is a day 1 purchase!

Sounds like a good tip. What other arcade games can u play in the other ones?
QuickSciFi, just play Dark Souls already (maybe start with DSIII).
Lol. You know I will. I may start from the beginning of the series, though. Just not ready for it atm.

Sonic Forces
Monster World
Wolfenstein 2
Far Cry 5
Metro Exdous
Anthem
I am also looking forward to those. Did you also mean, Monster "HUNTER" World?
Metro Exodus looks surprisingly amazing. I couldn't get into the first two. They just felt too unpolished, both in gameplay and graphics. Kind of how I also felt about Homefront. I stopped getting motion sick from 3D games a long time ago, and those two franchises reminded why I used to. Framerate does matter a lot. But I think it's also the gameplay physics overall. It's like a dev who never made FPSs started making them for the first time and a small budget.
Anthem had me at the edge of my seat since its announcement, but lack of an offline single player campaign is a real bummer.
It will be a bummer if I'm forced to try it.
P.S.> Are we still talking about video games...?
Nope. No couch multiplayer.
Indeed and it looks utterly amazing. So very Sad SEGA didn't do the same with PSO II and build on it with a console version build from the ground up on the consoles and coming out worldwide. Watch Monster Hunter World be HUGE (pardon the bun) and where SEGA should have been there with the online fun.
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen hits PS4 and Xbox One in October.

Might as well buy and experience this game for the first time on better hardware.
Bummer, Metroid: Samus Returns controls with the analog stick. :? The D-Pad is for some powerup functions. Still enjoying it, though; just not a fan of sidescrolling with an analog stick. It's the third worst way to control a sidescrolling character (second to which is a touch screen, and worst of which would be motion controls :yuck:). I'm certain it will grow on me, but by the time it does, I probably would have beaten the game already. Hopefuly the first couple of hours should do the trick. Luckily, the gameplay is extremely polished and highly dynamic. So much fun either way. And the music is so eerie and awesome. Loving it.
If butlje was un-timed out already he would have told me another thing or two about Dragon's Dogma. I mean, not like he's my buddy or that I get along with him, but this place is quite enough.
Unreal how badly I want to smack developers sometimes, but this isn't one of those cases. Why? 2D Metroid will always be a Japanese dev'ed game to me, so no surprise a Western dev found such an easy solution to muck things up. Never had any plans on buying this game and in a way glad that plan was justified.
I was initially disappointed by the analog movement in Metroid, but it was clearly a deliberate design choice. I'm guessing it was either analog movement or lock-on targeting a la Metroid Prime.
Oh, you mean it's now got 360 rotational aiming? Then there's also the Earthworm Jim choice.
Yeah, but that's dumb.
So analog stick gameplay less dumb then D-Pad for 2D platformers, gotcha.
No, analog will never be better suited for side-view gaming. I thought you were referring to Earthworm Jim's "close enough" targeting and the invisible bullets.
That was what I was talking about. And bullets don't have to be invisible. But even still, why did the game have to be designed with 360 degree aiming in the first place, what's wrong with good ol' 8 directions?
And does this game really make any good use of 360 degree direction, as in does the game seem well designed and balanced around it? Or at least good enough use of it to be worthy of clunky analog stick platform controls. Questions like these good game developers have good grasp of.
It could've done without the analog stick. It makes awful use of the d-pad anyways. You need to press Up on the D-Pad, keep it pressed, then press the A button twice; holding the A button that second time for like 2 seconds. Otherwise it doesn't work. And that's just to reveal hidden blocks. Now imagine doing this while holding the left shoulder button while hanging on the ceiling with the spider ball. :?
Well, that's a bit overstated. Do you only have the radar function so far? (the "up" direction). Eventually you'll have a power for each of the four directions, and it's pretty simple to use them. Select one with the d-pad, activate (or deactivate) with A.
Remember how you feel about this right now, I'm curious if your opinion will have changed by the time you get to the end of the game. Mine did.
I'm just being petty, honestly. I don't mind it one bit, just the analog control. But to be fair, it's not as simple as pressing Up and A, though.
