Cartridge "Acclaim" stamp
I recently bought a lot of about 30 used Sega Genesis games on ebay.
2 of the games in the lot though seem odd to me - you know on the back of the cart where there is a stamping in the plastic right in between the 2 screws - 2 of these games have that stamp covered by a perfectly sized black piece of tape of some kind (and its not like electrical tape - both are really dull but stuck well without leaving residue). I peeled them both off and underneath is "Acclaim Entertainment inc" stamped into both carts. But these aren't Acclaim games. One is World of Illusion, the other is William's Arcade's Greatest hits.
Upon taking the carts apart, both appear to have genuine guts, and the labels sure look genuine to me (I'm pretty good at spotting fakes). And all the other games in the lot seem legit.
So my question is, is it possible that Acclaim sold extra, unused stamped carts to other companies and they used them for their games? Or is this something that somebody did later and the shells aren't genuine to their originals? Like I said, EVERYTHING else about these games seems legitimate.
