@sulli56van2010: Oh, I agree -- historically nerdy interests are, in some ways, more mainstream than ever! That's why I'm sort of bemused by midnightrider's use of "nerds" as an insult. And going back to console stuff, I think my problem with his argument started here:

I mean, to put it more positively: I think nerds are awesome. They don't beat the shit out of people, they tend to be bright and open-minded, and they tend to know a lot about the things they care about. Sure, some of them are complete pains-in-the-ass -- I've worked with kids on the spectrum, and it takes a lot of patience -- but they're usually harmless, and I can often learn a lot from them. Most of the people I know who've done anything worthwhile are at least sort of nerdy.
When nerds get obsessive about their hobbies and interests, it doesn't usually result in people dying. That's more than I can say for soccer fans, or zealots arguing about the tiniest issues in religious texts far older than any console, or any number of other things that we accept as normal but that are waaaaaaaaay more fucked-up and "nerdy" -- in the sense of being obsessive about meaningless things -- than anything nerds do.
When a SNES fan insists that Chrono Trigger is the best RPG ever, or when a Sega fan has some weird fantasy about Amy Rose, it doesn't hurt anybody. That's more than I can say for a lot of my fellow citizens, many of whom seem desperate to hurt somebody.

What use would it be to rent an RPG? When I was a kid, when I rented a game, it was only for 2-5 days before it was due. Idk if your store let you keep them longer, but that doesn't seem like nearly enough time to finish one. And the next person to rent it could erase your game.Quote:

That's why I never beat Chrono Trigger, my first RPG (made it as far as that floating island place in one weekend and that was my experience with CT until I bought it for PS1 Collection). Sure I could extend it for another two days, but it would be a waste of money since during the week half of my day is wasted in lame ass longer then it should be grade school (I think it's only that long because it doubles as babysitting).
