I mainly just listen to NPR as they cover more stuff worldwide. But yeah media nowdays seems to be about the all mighty $$$$$ Also since AT&T has purchased Time Warner that should be interesting.
You can't really trust any media unfortunately. While non-mainstream stuff is certainly less... compromised, they are often highly ideological and present opinionated one-sided stuff. Thankfully you can read from many places and build a clearer picture.
This seems relevant:

^ Like I've said, corporations and advertisement money influence news. Disinformation is everywhere.
And not like doctors don't mess up and get away with it either. ie. check the something random thread where buddy lost his mom due to this.
This is one of those things I just can't figure out why anyone would give a shit.
^ Maybe because media has so much influence over people.
Luckily you have just exposed them with your post on a Sega forum, man are they angry right now! they're like :
"this Thief guy exposed us for what we are.. whatever will we do now???"
I mean.. keep up the fight Thief, You are one of all those cyberpunks who fight against injustice and corruption every day of their lives. by exposing the wrongs on gaming forums.

^ You don't think today's media having so much influence over people is an issue or could lead to an issue?
The mainstay broadcasting channels are just copies of themselves, there is no difference you can just pick one. Fox and CNN have different topics but they share more in common than differences.
If a news channel fakes a broadcast or reports on a faked broadcast, without mentioning that the video or audio used was a recreation, then a person should lose faith in that channel.
But we are past this now, as propaganda is legal once again in the United States. Therefore no news channel can be trusted.
What are people's feelings about outside the USA?
Thief, you of all people should know the answer to that question. You need only look at the last federal election to see how the media sought to influence voters. Whether you looked at the liberal or conservative media, both published articles of polling data that favoured their favoured party.
The worst of these cockroaches was the Toronto Sun. If you were an astute Canadian who read their online edition of their paper, you would see alot of Canadians who traditionally favoured the Progressive Conservative Party make critical comments about the former Prime Minister, Steven Harper, and his party. So much so, that many Conservative Canadians cited their disgust and their unwillingness to vote for them in this election. So what did the Toronto Sun do but censor comments from being published under any online news item as the election neared.
Even thought other right wing media such as the National Post favoured Stephen Harper in their final article prior to election day, they didn't dabble in such sordid behaviour.
Whether you favour right or left wing ideals, an astute voter will take time to read various news sources (left, right, or independent) in order to make an informed decision regarding a given issue.

Not to stray away too far from the topic, but I find it quite interesting that we are now seeing independent news sources begin to creep into mainstream online media. For example, RT (Russian Television) news articles are becoming far more prominent among Google News search results.
Anyone know the reason why? This year it was announced that Russia has invested $100 million dollars into the English version of RT news presumably to influence the American populace with respect to issues such as Crimea, Syria, the Middle East etc. Alternative news sources that favour the Russian position, such as `Global Research - Centre for Research on Globalization` is yet another example of this. I`ve yet to see someone discuss this relevant issue.
In any case it`s quite interesting how nation states are now using online media as a tool to circulate online propaganda to the masses. And from what I`ve noticed, it is indeed having an effect on public opinion.
Noting the above, it makes me wonder whether the United States has invested money towards Russian media sources that favour the Western agenda and as a way of influencing the Russian populace with their own style of propaganda.
.
No soup for you today! I don't think the news media could have ever been trusted. Well maybe 90 years ago, integrity might have been higher back than?
Wait why is that Simpsons gif flipped?
Here's a pretty good explanation of what's gone wrong with the mainstream media over the past few decades:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4B0HV_GQut4
But how can you trust PragerU if you're not conservative? How am I supposed to trust MSNBC if I'm not a liberal?
I think the video isn't really saying who you can trust, it's simply pointing out what has gone so wrong with the media. Both sides shouldn't really be trusted, that's the point it's making. There shouldn't be any political bias in the news media, just the objective facts to let those of us reading/watching form our own opinions on them.
The media has pretty much been ruined by throwing objectivity out the window and going for more sales/clicks/views with more outrageous views and clickbait articles.

i don't really get the conspiracy theory stuff though; you've got tons of sources and things breaking on twitter/etc all the time, with the benefit of snopes/fact check etc to hopefully keep people too far from the alex jones end of the pool
tinfoil hat stuff is fun for a minute, but really, the world's not quite that interesting - if your media source is pointing at large cabals/etc working from the shadows, it's probably butt
911 was an inside yob.
no no, i'm talking about just that.
you haven't.
without even indulging jet fuel/steal beam thing, just think on how likely bush (or any other) administration would be on organizing the multiple agencies that'd be necessary for such an effort, and then the likelihood of all that going down perfectly, much less cloaked in secrecy with all involved.
you know what i took from all of wikileaks' recent, sad efforts? no one knows what they're doing, on any level. they just kinda make moves & hope for the best.
Don't become of those those of those sheep that bah whatever fiction they heard! Unfortunately, many live in a illusory word of what ifs: They choose to believe that the government is the boogey man rather than the defender of their way of life.
What I find even more confounding are those that balk at the idea that a discussion of politics can take place on a gaming forum. Real world politics effects your life directly. It's not a trivial matter. It's not something that is restricted solely to the 6 o'clock news. If you think that, you're a stooge!
For the past couple of years, the biggest super powers have been playing a chess match: a chess match that will effect your way of life tenfold. And it won't only affect you politically, but economically as well.
The world does not another Cold War but we are in the midst of it. And controlling the populace, both domestic and internationally, is paramount in order to achieve the set objective. if your paying attention, it's being done in part through the media.
This week Russia indulges in a bit of saber rattling, announcing their new intercontinental missile, the RS-28 Sarmat and dubbed "SATAN II", which is capable of “wiping out parts of the Earth the size of Texas or France”. Not scary? Go look up how big the state of Texas is on Google Maps.
Russia also claims the intercontinental ballistic missile:
- can evade radar and is immune to anti-missile weapons;
- can carry a warhead of about 10 tons, carrying roughly 15 independent thermonuclear warheads which separate from the missile on the edge of space before plunging towards their target;
- Finally it is also claimed that it can carry one giant super-warhead, with the explosive equivalent of 20,000 tons of explosive for up to 10,000km.
How scary is that! Is it true? Is this news item a veiled threat through social media to the West? Only time will tell.
9/11 conspiracy theory documentaries in a nutshell.
CAN YOU REALLY BELIEVE WHAT YOU SAW ON TELEVISION? Heres a bunch of interviews from people on television and documents with no actual source.
Still very suspicious how buildings designed to withstand a plane crash all of a sudden go down like a controlled demolition job. And how are interviews from multiple sources on the scene, that include fire fighters too, not credible enough? Even our court system acknowledges witnesses. At least you would think it's enough to reserve some suspicion. But whatever, this is all in the far past now. I mean, not like anyone learns from history, why it's always doomed to repeat. Sad but true.
The definition hasn't changed. People are just using the term wrong. Just like retro and vintage.
Basically, people who use the term "tin foil hat" in referring to anything besides what it applies to do not know what they are talking about. It would be like referring to all video games as Nintendo or Atari. Don't be one of those people.
A photo from an ironworker friend than just bought disposable camera to take this that day.

Reptilians (also called reptoids, reptiloids, saurians, or Draconians) are purported reptilian humanoids that play a prominent role in fantasy, science fiction, ufology, and conspiracy theories. The idea of reptilians on Earth was popularized by David Icke, a conspiracy theorist who claims shape-shifting reptilian aliens control Earth by taking on human form and gaining political power to manipulate human societies. Icke has claimed on multiple occasions that many of the world leaders are, or are possessed by, so-called reptilians.
The vast majority of conspiracy theorists are nuts. The 9/11 truthers for example are pretty sad reminder of how delusional some people can be. I don't believe our government is that organized enough to do an attack on their own citizens like that and I don't think (and I despise George W. Bush a lot but not as much as I despise Donald Trump), said in his first year in office he wanted to see some buildings fall in a some top secret meeting.
What I know is that they are some groups of people out there that truly hate us and will do anything they can to attack us and cause fear in our lives, because liberty means nothing to them, it's all about conquest for them. The terrorist of today for example use religion as an excuse for what they do. They want the West to hate them so they can keep their awful rule on those in Middle East that aren't able to fight back. It has nothing to do with religion but more about conquest and controlling a population and making them fearful of the West, kind of like North Korea in a way but actually successful at causing problems for others but no less crazy. However not everyone is so easily manipulated or as cut off either. Using hate as the means to control those who are most vulnerable to manipulation a lot like organizations like the Westboro Baptist Church that pickets at funerals.
^ Again, there's some convincing evidence that not all is at it seems.
