I think he was talking about the cartridges. But hey, let's just have choices, each to their own.
And I'd go with plastic too (especially if it's the same cost), I mean that lasts longer right?
You know what, I missed the part about "send money in Sik's direction". I was like, this guy wants to make, what, like 20 bucks (plus costs) on a a free rom, wtf is wrong with him. Too quick too judge, totally my bad. Sorry. Should've finnished reading the actual post first :p
Oh you peoples :P
I wouldn't do that to Sik :)
You got it :) The cover art is almost finished, and working on the label and manual art next. I'm hoping it won't be longer than a week to get the rest of the stuff done and printed up (I'm getting my own artwork made up in the event others repro it, at least they'll know which copies came from Second Dimension).
A month already! (・o・) Released a TTF recreation of the game's HUD font to go with it!
You can get it from the same place you can get the game: https://sik.itch.io/miniplanets

...also because I'm seriously considering opening a bank account just to use the bit of money I got to do laptop repairs, now it's not just the fan but some important keyboard keys are misbehaving (↓ is outright dead, Menu and right Ctrl key were already dead long ago, today S and D keep not working right) and I can't imagine a discrete keyboard being even remotely comfortable when I can't detach the builtin one <_<; (and laptops in Argentina seem to be going for like over 3000 USD because we love to gouge prices, even Alienware ordered from overseas would be cheaper and much more powerful)
(EDIT: yes it's possible I could find a cheaper computer, that's the price we found last time... though there's also the problem that nearly everything you can find locally is horribly underpowered by today's standards)
+ shipping + import taxes =P (not to mention having a credit card, since that's the only legal way to do on-line payments from Argentina, and I'm far away from meeting the requirements to get one)
I could just open the laptop and give it a try myself but I'd leave that as a last resort since I have to take apart everything and that sounds risky (in the "I can likely break something" sense... though I said the same about desktop towers and eventually go to the point that taking apart everything became routine).
Wire funds to someone you trust, have them buy one locally and ship it to you as a gift?
Only credit cards (there are debit cards that can be used in place of credit cards, but I'm not sure if they work here). In practice anybody who's serious over purchasing on-line just gets an US account with an US address from some friend. It ends up being easier to just dodge the laws altogether, which should tell you how bad it is =/ In any case I think I already have enough to get this laptop repaired anyway, but... meh =P I need to start thinking on other games >_>
On an unrelated topic, the new font should be useful for anybody who wants to make manuals or the like.
I'm not sure how expensive keyboards are there for you but I've got a pile of them here from work. Could probably just ship one off to you if it's that bad.
Oh well, I'll go ot again :D He doesn't have a problem with "keyboards". His laptop's integrated keyboard is broken, he needs to either repair it or get a replacement specific for the laptop model that he has. He doesn't have any problems getting a normal, external, keyboard.
Yep, that. A normal USB keyboard is cheap and easy to get (and would come with a numpad) and I do still have a spare USB port, the problem is that it's a laptop so it'd be probably cumbersome to use (I already don't have much space on the table and I can't imagine putting the keyboard on top of the laptop is that great of an idea). Though maybe I'm overestimating how awful that'd be ¯\(º_o)/¯
Ahh. I personally can't stand laptop keyboards or trackpads/mouse nubs. At work I use a docking station and at home without a station I've just got a powered USB hub with all my devices connected to that I'll plug into whatever I'm working with.
OK since CIBophiles seem to have come back in full force I'll just put here again what's the deal with Miniplanets:
- I'm not going to make cartridges myself, I don't want to get involved into that mess.
- Anybody can make and sell cartridges, no matter the amount. No money is requested.
- So far everybody who contacted me with the intention to make cartridges have said they intend to pay me out of principle anyway.
That last point is probably interesting. So far I got nothing yet because it's too soon (none of those cartridges are even out!), but if this works out then maybe this could be a better approach to releasing homebrew without all the ugly trouble that's usually included (legalities and money can magically make people fight, OK?). And it also can kill the scalping business since there'd be no real limit to the supply.
By the way, if anybody wants to make Miniplanets cartridges there's no need to explicitly ask me for permission. That's what the license is for.
REV02 released, fixes some pretty important bug with real hardware, make sure to download the new ROM, especially if you're planning to make cartridges out of it.
Redownload here: https://sik.itch.io/miniplanets
Also for some weird reason that bug didn't seem to happen on a Mega Everdrive? (and it wasn't an initialization bug, it was something that should have never worked in the first place) It does certainly leave more questions...
Thanks dude!
I completely forgot that there was a cheat here.
Press ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → in the title screen, you'll go to a secret menu when you start the game. If you hold down A while starting, you're sent to the credits screen instead.
The keyfob is a nice touch. Is that a sticker?
I like this game :)
Playonretro doesn't seem to have it in stock yet. Can't wait until it's in!
Yeah they aren't doing preorders. You'll have to wait for Friday =x
Looks cute! You know what the price is going to be?

Ordered!
The version with the english manual say Manual Espaniol in the title (click the link to see it) too so how do you know that I ordered the english language version?
Do you mean the URL? If so, ignore that (yeah, PlayOnRetro made a complete mess on that site x_x go complain to them, not me)

Hmm somehow the problem isnt there anymore. When I ordered it yesterday there were two versions. One showed a pic with the british flag at the bottom and one with the spanish. Both headlines were Manual Espanol. So I ordered the one which showed the english flag in hope it will turn out clear that I would like to have the english manual but my paypalpayment only says Manual Espanol so I think I wont get the english one as you wont know that I ordered it. Is it understandable? Its quite hard for me to explain as english isnt my mothertongue. If not I may send you pics to help understand what I want to describe here.
He's still fixing the site as far as I can tell ._. There's an e-mail address there (below the descriptions), feel free to e-mail them there. English should work.
PS: shipping on Monday it seems? so you probably have time.
This is what I mean.
I wrote them and ask them to send me the right one. Thanks for your help.
Edit: Problem's solved. Very kind guys.
