PS2 to PS3 controller adapters: do they work?

I noticed the chinese are mass producing these for dirt cheap on eBay. I was thinking of getting two of them to be able to use my PS1 and PS2 original controllers on my PS3. Right now, I have an official PS3 controller with broken sticks but every other button works. This is because I got the system from my nephew. For the most part, I've been using a USB Logitech controller (which is basically a PS pad clone) and have only had two instances where it gave me problems: one is that DuckTales Remastered doesn't recognize it, and the other was that the sticks didn't respond properly in Front Mission Evolved, maybe due to sensitivity differences in original vs. clone controllers. Otherwise, all buttons on the Logitech are mapped the same and work along with both pad/sticks for other games, including PS1 classics. The only issue is the lack of a Home button; I use the one on my remote or the other pad to access that. Can anyone tell me to what extent the PS2-to-PS3 USB adapters work and what I should be concerned about when buying them?

I bought a few of these years ago when I first picked up my PS3 and I've got no complaints. Depending on your particular model it may have a home button function by doing a particular button combination.

I bought them prior to cheap wireless controllers flooding the market as I refused to pay $50 USD for a second controller that would only be used once a blue moon. They worked without issues using a regular PS2 Dual Shock 2, and also worked with my PS1 MAS Supernova arcade stick.

I have one called the "CX-103".

Dual Shock PS1 and PS2 controllers work fine with it. I've also tested the PS1 flight stick, it works on the PS3 via this adapter.
It's advertised as compatible with PC as well. I haven't tried that yet.

As far as I can determine though, no "home" button alternative.

The PS2 to PS3 USB adapters I bought in the tail end of 2010. They work well for PS2 and PS1 gamepads on a PS3 even the rumble works on them also it lets me use them on PC as DirectInput. Really anything that works with PS3 also works on PC and vice versa. The one I chose to get looks like this one here. I see there are not as many available as there was years ago from sellers in the US. Edit: I like them so much I bought many more to give to family and friends.

Just so BonusKun knows: what EyeDee showed above are actually the same ones I'm seeing on eBay for about $1.50-$2.00. ;)

Be warned though, despite it saying 'professional' and being more expensive, I'm sure this is the EXACT same one the chinese sellers have. Some US sellers bulk order them and sell them for more, with the only advantage being the shipping will likely take less time if it's domestic. I've bought a MIDI-to-USB cable from a US seller for that reason, but in all honesty it was the same generic one the chinese had for a few dollars less. Any possible defects or weaknesses would exist in these US ones as they would the chinese ones which they were bought. True US products usually flaunt some kind of manufacturers name somewhere, and of course, NOT a chinese name like KongFeng or something.

Yeah, I stay away from buying abroad if I have the option. The ones I purchased 6 years ago were $5 each free ship and there was no doubt they are made in China (Edit: !.?. but than again what of this kinda stuff isn't 🇨🇳 ), they were loose inside small plastic bag with no manufacturing info to be found. And I only picked that seller selling same looking item because their feedback was 100% (I guess that it could be bc it's a new account) the 3 or 4 other US sellers have a not so good track record.

I have one that came out when the PS3 launched. It has a Guitar Hero 2 switch that can be flipped to use a wired GH guitar with the PS3. There's even a home button on it.

I finally got a pair of these today which I ordered from Asia for dirt cheap on eBay. My experience? Everything I've thrown at it works, including both a Pelican and first party PS1 controllers. They are mapped the same as the PS3 ones, but the analog on/off functions as a HOME button rather than actually turning it off. It's always on. Funnily enough, the analog sticks cannot be used in PS1 games that supported dual shock, even if you enable analog mode through the menu. This was not the case when using my PC Logitech controller mentioned in the OP, which was USB by default and not hooked up through an adapter (it works on PS3 without the need for drivers). That one had a mode button to turn analog on and off. It worked with PS1 games regardless of whether you set it in the home menu, even though the menu itself could only be accessed with a remote or original PS3 controller when using Logitech. On PC, the adapters work fine for anything, like any other joystick.
