Hey sega-16 readers, I have arrived in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Japan (which is crammed in between Tokyo and Yokohama) for study abroad at Keio University. Although classes don't start for a few weeks, so far my impression of Japan is very positive, people are really nice and it looks like there is much to see and do.
I was riding a taxi last night and counted at least 5 arcades on one street, and that was only in the span of maybe 10 minutes at best. Wow!
Cool! I've got a friend who's determined to do just that after he graduates. I've heard that it's pretty much a life changing experience for whomever goes. How long are you staying.
I WAS wondering where'd you gone lately....

hey guys, thanks for the kind words! Yeah haha, preparing for Japan was what caused me to fall off the radar here for a bit, but hopefully now i can get some cool japanese gaming info! but yeah, everyone is very nice, i'm staying at a great place. Did some grocery shopping this morning, funny to see imported american items like corn dogs selling at inflated prices (8 bucks for like 3 corn dogs lol?) It's a fun time, and I can't wait to see the game stores :)

haha yes, sweet flakes are like the knock off corn flakes. I actually saw real corn flakes here yesterday, but they were more pricey.
Went to a thrift store around the corner from where I live and they had a bunch of games (although, it was mainly nintendo). Japanese nes (famicom) games for like 3 bucks, snes for 10, and a used x-box for 80 bucks. They had the sega saturn mouse boxed for 10 bucks. Didn't see any mega drive stuff there though, but it was a very interesting find.
How expensive is petrol?

haha hey everyone. Let's see, the sushi here is good, though I've only had a little. Had some great soba today at a traditional japanese reastraunt (you even had to take off you shoes before sitting down). had this great drink today called 'calpis.' Say it out loud and and that 'l' starts to sound like a 'w' haha.
Went to my first three story arcade today! I about died haha. It was awesome, though there were no 2D fighters. The first floor was like claw games and what not, the second floor had shooting, racing, and slots. Played this awesome mobile suit gundam game where you get into this giant cockpit and pilot he gundam. Very cool. The third floor was like dancing games, DDR, guitar and drummania. There was also a part of the third floor called 'pretty station' where there was a bunch of picture machines.
Saw a few other arcades and such. I updated my facebook link that I posted above with a ton of new pictures. Today was a great trip to Yokohama, and there were arcades all over the place. Saw a maid cafe too. And what appeared to be a strip club. Oh my haha.
The Predator in Japan? Thats hardcore.
WTF is a "Maid Cafe"? Do the women there have to dress like maids or something?
Also, if you see a strip club there is only one thing you have to do.
And a DVD store, you know what that means...porn! Rent it, buy it, bring some home to share with your pals on Sega-16.
heh, yeah a maid cafe is where girls dress up like maids and serve you food. The strip club I passed was closed, it was still 4:00 pm, so I don't think it was open yet. More adventures to come :)

What are these Koala cookies you speak of? I'm too lazy to click to Wikipedia.
There normal yellow cookies with small Koala cartoons printed on them, but then they have this unbelievable chocolate filling!

The closest thing we have to those over here are these disgusting cookies shaped like teddy bears with a horrible chocolate underside. Ironically enough in Australia we don't have Koala cookies...
How come the only place that doesn't seem to have Koala cookies is the one place where the damn things live.
I've seen enough nature shows about Australia to know that pretty much every living thing native to that place is either highly dangerous or full of venom so deadly that you die in half a second. I'm pretty sure Koala's fall into the 2nd category. ;) Beware of the great Koala rebellion!

found an even bigger thrift store down the street from where i live.
Nearly crapped my pants when I saw a boxed neo geo cd, 2 boxed super famicoms, and tons of games. They had sealed dreamcast games for literally the conversion of a single dollar bill. Lots of saturn games too. It was amazing haha.
Strangly enough, the thrift store also had an adult video section where the videos were all about $150. Pretty strange haha. they also had a nice glass case in the back of the store full of naughty little anime toyswhere all the girls were in various states of undress. classy!

Went to akihabara today, the video game, manga, and anime capital of the world.
WOW.
It was heaven on earth. Every shop had just walls of games and anime, and the shops often had multiple floors leading to more shops. I was in one shop, that was new video games on the bottom floor, fan comics on the second floor, and gay anime porn on the third floor lol (i had no idea what was up there, but i should have seen the signs with all of the anime boys kissing anime boys. I went in, saw some of my favorite characters holding each other in ways i've never seen, turned around and went back downstairs haha).
Bought some dreamcast games today that i've been dieing to import, and saw a ton of mega drive and mega cd games. There was one shop that just had a wall of mega cd games, it was incredible. Basically any game you can think of, there is going to be a shop that sells it in akihabara. I'm going back tomorrow with my camera to get pics for you guys (though i don't think i can get pics of things inside the stores)
there was a ton of anime porn (and regular human porn) everywhere as well. Even on the floors and ceilings! I looked down under my shoes and i was stepping on this erotic floor mat of kasumi from dead or alive with a piece of the male anatomy in her mouth. Only in Japan.
(oh and the maid girls haha, my buddy and I asked two of them if we could have pictures with them, but they weren't allowed to. Rats! Maybe I'll find a willing one tomorrow).
