Osman

I am a huge fan of this game and hope to find the PCB for a reasonable price some day. I love the first Strider game too and Osman has the same surreal feel about it that every Strider sequel failed to evoke.
Also how powerful is Deco Simple 156 hardware? It has 28Mhz ARM5 chip so in theory it is far above the likes of Sega Genesis and even Neo Geo in raw power department but the sound chips are simple and graphically the game itself looks on par with Alien Soldier so I believe it could be translated to Genesis with little to none losses. It is not like Metal Slug with tons of animations and details nor like Dodonpachi with tons of sprites, both of which are far above what Genesis could handle.

I watched à longplay. This is far above what à Genesis Can handle. It'd be a good candidate for a Saturn game though.

yeah, i'dve killed for a saturn release of this, right after alien vs predator

wish id've seen it in an arcade, though. yet another game i need to setup MAME for!

The Saturn would have been more recent, as it released in arcades in '96, 7 years after both the original Strider, and the Genesis.

Cannon Dancer aka Osman is a real showcase for old school 2D pixel animation, the game perform huge amount of animation and colors, didn't notice scale or rotation effects, the game only use two backgrounds layers for most time, use flicker and dither for transparencies effects, and according to the wikipedia runs on the Genny standart resolution 320x240, the master pallete is 4096 colors, and in game average use 70/120 colors, which imposes a strong challenge for the graphic artist to convert the art with a minimum of losses, something that was somehow achieved in the original Strider.

The music is too stuffy and uninspired, and could be greatly improved with a good FM composition, the voices quality would probably downgraded.

I don't know at point Genny VDP can replicate the superbous animation frames, Alien Soldier would be a good parameter although not at the same level, the big bosses battles should use a background layer, to keep the sprite flickering at a tolerable level.

In the end, yes i believe Treasure could make an feasible conversion, or even the Watermelon guys could create an appropriate engine for a similar game style.
