If the demo is already done I would have to guess that its not as much of a technical issue as it would be something else. Some sort of legal issues maybe? I have no idea what kind of legal issues there would be but whatever the problem is hopefully its resolved soon.
No need to worry on the programming side; Fonzie is one of the best MD coders of all. I really wish he would release some of his more spectacular demos to the public.:D
The video was choppy because it was recorded choppy; the actual game runs in 60 fps.
bank switching is no issue either; we have no limitations in that way, technically we could give the game gazillions of MEGA POWER; and copy protection is done prefectly easy.
We are considering releasing a gameplay video from the demo now, so that you can see something at least.
Please just be patient, if the thing that is keeping the demo delayed can be be done, you will see it was well worth the wait; and even if not, you will most likely still get more than you expect right now. We have BIG plans.:)
Oh I see now. I can also see why it is a secret. I wouldn't want to tell anyone I was trying to do such-and-such and then it comes out and such-and-such isn't there. I am not being a smart-ass, I do understand now. Good luck!
Yeah, exactly. We don't want to promise things that aren't certain, not even discuss them in public because people on the internet are superb at misunderstanding things.
Yeah, you've piqued my curiosity but at the same time I definitely don't want to know what it is, just in case. Oh well, we shall discuss this no further unless it becomes reality.
BAH!
RELEASE THE GAME ALREADY! I JUST SOLD A KIDNEY AND STASHED THE MONEY SO I COULD BUY A COPY!
lol, really though...I'd probably push children to the ground if they were between me and a copy of this game.
Warm up video for the demo:
Demo release the same date Hitler invaded Poland! :D;)
Very pretty indeed. I am eager to see this game now more then ever. ^^
Nice work! Too bad they have to alternate walking horizontally and vertically to go up or down stairs, though. Kind of looks like a pain for the player to traverse stairs. What do RPGs have against diagonals?
I'd like to hear what the cart music sounds like.
IŽd like to point out especially the last part of the video, in the cave garden; that scenery features the Mega Drives shadow and highlight mode. Real time lighting on MD OMG111010110!!!
The shadow/highlight mode is not only very cool for atmosphere, it even gives you the chaŽnce to exceed that stupid 64-colour limit; the very scene you see shows up to 71 colours for example.
Double Post!
About the diagonal walking:
Actually, I wanted diagonal walking too; but it seems to make the whole thing more complicated, and by the time I joined the project it would have meant redoing all background graphics...which was not really worth it considering that RPGs do not neccessarily need diagonals.
If I recall correctly, Fonzie told me that even Sega advised programmers to avoid diagonals since they are not exactly the MDŽs speciality...
But at least I convinced the others of one thing: adding a run-button.
I hate RPGs where I am fated to walk in slow pace all the time.
All that hardwork you folks have been putting into Pier Solar certainly seems to have pulled off well!
Certainly looks high in quality....
We don't see much in the way of cut scenes though have you taken the manga cartoon storyboard approach or gone with the sprite based talky talky move a bit, talky talky
The cutscenes aren't in this video, but some will be seen in the demo and they are superb!
Ahh so the cutscenes idea was taken up afterall! Excellent :D
