I went ahead and clicked the link again and noticed a "like" at the top of the page. So I "liked" it.
...but did you truly like it?
THAT'S the real question!
If anybody would like to own an official strategy guide for Pier Solar based on (but expanded considerably from) my GameFAQs guide, please let Watermelon know by voting in the poll on the front page of magicalgamefactory.com. I've worked with a few other people from the forums there to make a test version of the first part of the guide, and it's really gorgeous, with lots of maps and a lavish art style that reflects the design of the game's packaging, manual and posterity magazine.
The major bummer for me was not a problem that most ran into. I was under the impression that the Pier Solar CD would work with any Sega CD model/region. I dropped $200 on a brand new Japanese Mega CD 2 for the occasion and when I popped in my Pier Solar disk and cart my Mega CD 2 never bothered to light up or communicate with the game. The cart thinks that there is no disc in my Mega CD 2. At first I thought something must have been wrong with my Mega CD 2 but then I did some digging and someone else with the same bios had the same problem. Later I emailed one of the devs about it and they told me unfortunately it's a bug in the programming and impossible to fix. I know I am a small part of the market but I wish they took the time to test the compatibility of different bios with the game before giving us the impression that it would be universally compatible, otherwise I would have never bought my Mega CD 2. I got a few games for it now just because I have it, but essentially it's a $200 paperweight and I don't see ever importing a Sega CD after buying this one.
I was also told that I would be getting two copies of Pier Solar because they messed up an order and had shipped me two but that I could keep the second one for free if I wanted or return it if I didn't need it. So I waited for a long while and the second copy didn't show up even after my initial one had and I was told they were both shipped out at the same time. After reading the email I was pretty pumped so I promised one of my friends I would give it to him as a gift. After about 5 weeks had passed and already receiving the copy I paid for and ordered I gave up hope and sent one last mail and one of the devs said that he thinks it must have been destroyed in customs. Weird though, because I live in Japan and they usually are not to strict especially with game items and I did receive my initial copy. Anyhow wasn't too much of a biggie since I did receive what I ordered but it did make me feel that maybe they were in a bit over their heads with all the orders with this being a first time project and all and it was quite a bummer to my friend.
All in all though I think they did a hell of a job. There are bound to be mistakes like CD glitches, shipping errors, etc. with a first time project this grand and such a limited staff. I'm sure a ton of hard work went into all aspects, not excluding post production. So overall I am satisfied even though I had my share of let downs with the release. In the end I still have a wonderful game to play on my Megadrive.
Thank you for this message.
What can I say about the CD is this: it was a TON of work, Fonzie did everything he possibly could to succeed, and that guy is a perfectionist and a man that works extremely hard to achieve his goal. So, to see the fate of the CD turn out as it did, was a big disappointment to him. There are many different factors behind the troubles: CDs are made differently these days compared to back then, CD units are old, there were many BIOS revisions and we couldn't possibly have tested on all of them and so on. We did what we could, have apologized for the inconvenience and released the disc ISO for download to somewhat "make up for it". We have never tried to fool or lie to anyone as people have suggested, it has more been a kind of communication problem which is easy to happen when not all of us speak English natively (me included). Again, sorry, sorry, sorry, we've learnt a lesson and it won't happen again!
About the shipping and customs: we had loads and loads of troubles with that as well. Games destroyed, put in storage for MONTHS (which we can't do anything about!), sent back because postman forgot to send a delivery note etc. etc. Shitload of troubles and extra work for us because various post systems around the world don't do their job correctly. And we got the accuse for it.
I have a Japanese Mega CD 2 and it works perfectly with the Pier Solar + CD.
What's your bios version? Can you pass me the serial number of your Mega CD 2 (it's on the back of the console)?
Brazilian customs & post are among the worst offenders IMO. I can see you guys having a lot of trouble with those _________ers.
@Zebbe: I totally understand man. I appreciate all the work that went into it and was just trying to give those being negative towards the situation an alternate perspective on it all.
@Agostinhobaroners: Wow, that's a shocker. I am both happy for you and jealous. Maybe it is just my CD then? I should try buying the soundtrack and seeing if that CD works for me instead. My Mega CD 2 is packed up right now because I am in the middle of moving. It has bios 2.0 with the Sonic splash screen. I was under the impression that all Mega CD 2 systems have the 2.0 bios.
Mine is 2.0 too. There are some 2.1 AFAIK.
Maybe it's your Mega Drive and not your Mega CD. I'm using a Japanese Mega Drive model 1, VA6 motherboard (I think it was manufactured in 1992).
Did you try to burn the image (.iso file) that WM made available for download?
Me too! Great guide, I've used it to get an idea of how to play and reach some of those chests that I can't figure out. As always though, I'm trying to avoid reading to much until I've cleared an area by myself.
I've got to the western continent so far, and finally I'm getting enough money to be able to stock up on items properly
Well this is a turn up for the books or is it an April fools? lol

However, according to the producer in charge of the game, there is no support from the gaming industry for the game to be financed, so we decided to look for the option crowdfunding (funding or collective crowd): ¨ When it comes to Brazil, unfortunately investors and publishers are only interested in small or mobile social games. There is interest in creating a complete game ¨ ¨ here, despite the thousands of gamers in Brazil. ¨, says Diego Leon, director of Interactive Gameblox.

If the project is funded, will be the first RPG directed and produced by Brazilian digital media and physical, and inaugurate a new model for achieving national projects.
- ¨ This fundraising is not just a way to fund the project, but also to show the market that create complete games in Brazil is a viable business. On the other hand, Brazilians are not investing in the project, perhaps an indication that unfortunately, investors are right. ¨ - complete Diego.
that looks fucking awesome
I don't know about this, but Tulio did tell me a long time ago that Pier Solar would eventually show up for the likes of Xbox Live and whatnot, or at least that was the plan back then. He didn't have any other details. I don't think he was thinking a complete overhaul back then, though.
Also, it looks like Hoston is missing his mouth. And nose.
