Pier Solar: Official Thread

^If ur referring to what I said about grinding, I wasn't really complaining. I really did NO grinding the whole game, but at the last boss I finally thought I could use some grinding. I didn't see how I could grind at that point, but then Zebbe pointed it out, so it's all good. :cool:

Also just curious, why did you avoid playing it for a long time after buying it? (I know u mentioned it before but I don't remember why...)

I'm about to start the Western continent now. I almost started getting worried there I wasn't going to see any real gameplay (by the time I got to the desert, I had been playing for hours and most of it was character chatter and plot development). So far, I really don't see what people were arguing about in terms of grinding. I haven't even started grinding yet, and that's saying a lot (coming from someone who is actually into RPGs for the hardcore grinding).

Everyone will have their own definition of when simple leveling will become tedious grinding. But when you are just about to go to the western continent, this is where the most grinding in the game happens. That is the most boring part for me, wandering around through the woods on the western continent, because for the most part you are just fighting.

There are more places towards the end where you might have to fight a lot, but only if you don't find the right way through some maze or wander around the map searching for secret chests.

Isn't the FM chip on the MD itself already over CD quality? At least as far the sampling rate goes. It has over 44.1kHz sampling quality, but just 9-bit resolution. AFAIK, the situation with the Mega CD is similar. The difference between redbook and non-redbook is just the one is real instruments playing, the other one is a synthesizer simulating some instruments.

Well, I'm about to start that part now. That Krugell guy just became part of my party. I think I have to revisit the forest again. If this is the only fun part, then I'm going to try and enjoy it as much as I can. Thanks.

P.S.> I'm not sure if I was clear, though. I haven't yet started grinding. As in, I go in the forest, find my path quick (to which I must add that the random encounters are most-definitely NOT as frequent as some people have said) and kill-off the level boss.

N.Saibot, yes! A CD cannot fully reproduce the entire sound spectrum of the Genesis, but you'd be extremely lucky to find one person in a billion who could notice. The Sega CD sound chips are another story, however. Not that either of these things are bad.

Given that a Canadian company could find people to notice improvements in the audio and spend millions with the QSound thing, well, everything is possible.

Placebo? No way. Whenever I play a game with Q sound, it sounds like I am literally INSIDE THE GAME!!! Nah just kidding. lol

TmEE stated, that the sampling rate is very important for FM and he can hear the difference between a downsample to CD quality and the original. I never done such tests though.

I looked the Mega CD up on Wikipedia, and it seems to have only a sampling rate of 32kHz? Isn't that the same as the SNES has? The SNES sounds extremely muffled in comparison to how the Pier Solar soundtrack sounds.

The nicest glitch is happening right now. I let the beautiful Hideout song play for like 1 hour (just leaving my crew in 1 place).

I had the FM playing and then the Sega CD started playing at the same time as the FM! It did the whole talk about how the CD is for Sega CD, Mega CD etc. in diff. languages. Plus burping & laughing. lol

Then it played the CD Hideout song at the same time as the FM version. I switched to PCM and after Hideout, it played the title screen song, then my favorite song, the one from the Pier (with waves crashing). Then the CD went silent so I guess it's back to FM. lol

(I actually love these songs so it's a nice glitch to me. lol)

The SNES sounds muffled because it is filtered to sound muffled, otherwise the 32kHz would sound scratchier/flatter than CD quality. I asked about this over at spritesmind back when I cared a lot more and I think I recall FM hitting almost 100kHz in some aspects, but it was not comparable to sample based audio. It is easy to hear the difference between Genesis sound played from emulators at 48kHz versus 44kHz. The audio depth changes quite a bit.

Hey I've been loving Mossae's Quest; What game is this based on again? Panorama Cotton right? (Never played it.) Does it play pretty similarly?

The game keeps freezing on me on the same spot: After I beat the baker, go down the elevator that breaks, look up at the other shaft and then coming back and Zellini says she feels a breeze coming from the other side of the wall. Did she mean a "freeze"?

I restarted the game and went back to the Inn to refresh. This did NOT help. But I fixed the problem, though. It's one of the two constant bugs I've found in the game thus far; whenever you take a sharp turn while going fast, you risk leaving your other characters behind, squiggling their way into the wall to no avail. This scene called for Zellini to be present, and thus the bug turned into a game crash. Go figure.
