Yeah, but using 2 boxes is not very elegant to me.^^ We wanted to have all in one. We also evaluated using a slim DVD case for the CD, and put it with the clamshell case in a...Schuber, I donīt know the word, you understand me.^^
But sadly, DVD slimcases have yet another height.^^
Yeah, I understand you and it's a very good idea actually. - What about a clamshell case for the cart and a jewel case for the CD, wrapped up in a huge solid cartboard box (kinda like the later PAL SNES RPGs) ? ^ ^
its too late to change anything now I guess
Yes, Iīm afraid so too.
Also, this package design is self-invented, and we need to order a large number to get it manufactured, so we cannot make a partial clamshell release either.
But seriously, these soft clamshells are not nice....and I promise the excellent printing effects will be worth going for cardboard. ;)
I understand, maybe for the 2nd or 3rd print run. - Honestly I think that demand for your game will be higher than you guys expect, so it's very likely the game will have to get a reprint or two later down the road.
I honestly think that the cartboard package prototype as shown on the photos looks absolutely excellent!
At the same time, and like many of my fellow customers, I am so happy about the game that it wouldn't matter if you were to sell the cartridge in a plastic bag ^ ^
Having said that, I do like these Chinese "soft" clamshell cases that Beggar Prince and MegaCart came in. Many pirate carts do use this casing too.
You really should consider including printable inserts in 300dpi to the CD. That should keep those purists out there with a color (laser) printer happy.
We donīt want to get mixed up with pirate games :D
Seriously though, I think the soft plastic cases are better than nothing, but not as good as our box and the original ones. But it might be possible that a second run would be in a clamshell case, without soundtrack etc because a second run would be smaller and not justify the luxury production.
I really hope that you are right and the demand will be higher than expected, because until the last copy of our first run is sold we are constantly fearing we might end up not breaking even. :P
Well, just think about it: Atm, aside of a few people at a limited number of message boards, not that many people know about your game. Once the game's released, you'll get more press coverage, and thus more customers.
Hm, maybe for the second print run you can consider a partial clamshell case release without CD (for those witout a Sega CD), and a 'Limited Deluxe Edition' with "a clamshell case for the cart and a jewel case for the CD, wrapped up in a huge solid cardboard box (kinda like the later PAL SNES RPGs)". - The actual cartridge, the clamshell case, insert and manual would be identical for both, and the only difference would be the CD + jewel case + cardboard box.
:)
Either way, all this talk about a second print run probably isn't a good idea as, just like with the fly in the soup that everyone would want, it could hurt sales of the first run.
OK Fonzie, sounds good. I can't wait until I receive this in February or whenever the release is. I say it should be next August since that is the Genesis' 20th anniversary.
That would be neat. A 20th Anniversary Edition cover. Just the cover, not a re-release of the game, special order when the time comes. A lot cheaper to make fancy boxes for existing customers.

this article must of slipped the grid! :) http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/915/915133p1.html
That`s a damn fine article... I just hope the shipping date comes around quick enough!
IGN is a pretty good reference for the wiki
Yeah, Travis is a great writer, and he has a deep understanding of the retro scene. If anyone at IGN can give the game a fair shake and promote it when possible, it's him.
