Any idea why the NES zapper doesn't work on CRT HDTVs?
I have a Samsung 27' CRT HDTV and before my friend gave it to me, I had thoughts of me using it as the ultimate retro gaming TV, using it for the 8-bit generation all the way up to the 128-bit generation when consoles were just first starting to use component cables for 480i/480p (as well as the Wii). But to my horror, the NES zapper doesn't work on it and the TV seems to have input lag similar to an LCD HDTV.
Any ideas why the NES zapper won't work on my CRT HDTV? Is it because of the input lag? Do they work differently than CRT SDTVs? It supports 240p component input, will my zapper work if I get an NESRGB and play directly on 240p resolution on the CRT HDTV? (because it seems to always upscale 240p to 480i on any other video input besides component)
I must add that all retro consoles with composite output look amazing on this TV including both the NES and the Sega Genesis. My NES front loader shows jailbars on all other TVs but looks amazing on this TV, almost to the point where I feel like I don't even need to mod it for better video output options.
