Attention Yakuza Fans: The Reprints Might be Flawed
I'm sure some of you are aware of the recent reprints of the Yakuza games. I just played through Yakuza 2 (great game btw), and one cutscene I thought was awfully short. It only lasted 1-2 seconds.
So I looked it up online.
Turns out it's supposed to be much longer, around 8-10 seconds. It's the one after Goro snaps the wire and the building blows up (in the dream).
So I thought my PS2 was dying (it is a launch model) and tried it on my BC PS3. Same story, only the first 2 seconds of the cutscene play.
So either my copy is defective (does that even happen these days) or THE REPRINTS ARE FLAWED!!
Yes, it's only a few seconds and nobody cares, but this means the data was altered. Also, this is the only one I caught. Who knows what else they left off.
If anyone else has Yakuza 2, reprint or original, can they please try playing the cutscene and post what they see? It's accessible under scenario review, in chapter 15, "A Terrible Dream."

PS2play was a program that existed a million years ago for playing PS2 videos directly from the disc. If the cutscene is prerendered, then see if it will play in a separate player. If the file is jacked, it will do the same thing it does in the game itself. Worth a shot.

It appears it's not as easy as that, because the FMV files have to be extracted from the image first, which requires tools that I can't find a mirror of (such as Nova Software Extractor).
However, something is definitely wrong, because two separate PS2 systems (well, one is a BC PS3) made the same mistake on a brand new disc. I requested a replacement for my copy.

The only other option I could consider for low-or-no-cost troubleshooting would be emulation to see if a separately-sourced disc image had the same problem, but the path you've taken won't raise any eyebrows. I'd have bought the reissue, but I'm still dragging my feet on finishing Yakuza 0, which will fuel my motivation to play through Yakuza 1 from start to finish, and I didn't want to put the cart before the horse just yet.

This sucks. Thanks for letting us know. I was planning on picking up a copy of the reprints.
On the other hand, though, if this is a sign that Sega is willing to revisit the OG code to make some changes, then that's a step in the right direction for Shenmue 1/2 HD becoming a reality. Could it be that those couple of seconds in that scene had in-game advertisements for sponsors they may have used, but already lost contracts to, a la Shenmue 1 & 2?

You can see the scene at 4:27 in the video. There's nothing in it really, just some CG buildings burning. My copy just has the video truncated so that only the first half second or so plays.

Yakuza 0 is so good man. The music and story are amazing. It's what got me into the Yakuza series. I skipped Yakuza 1 because of the awful English dub and the fact that the remake on PS4 is only a few months away.

It's in chapter 15, the last chapter lol. You can download a save file on GameFAQS, that's what I did for my PS3 (I played it on a PS2).
I requested a return. We'll see if my second copy has the same problem.
