In John Madden Football you don't play as J.M. but I'm sure I speak for many by saying the game wouldn't have been purchased (in the numbers) and survived IF an unsuccessful coach had his name on the cover. How many people would have run out and purchased Gerry Cooney's Punch Out? I say that because he would only be fought at the end and many people never even made it to him.
Perhaps it is me but I would expect a particular game to be endorsed by a suitable "athlete" or whomever.
