Hey, man...this stuff was shot in the 80s. Puffy shirts were everywhere. Pretty sure I had some back in the day. ;P
Anyone here know what was changed between the original Sega CD release, the 1994 re-issue and the 32X CD version?
I had heard that some of the video was cropped or edited to in the later revision (like the capture of the girl in the bathroom was reduced in length slightly) but I can't personally attest to knowing. I think the big changes were modification of the cover, and changing Sega Control Attack Team to Special Control Attack Team.
Come to think of it, I would be more interested in a physical release if it was all of the Digital Pictures games together (not counting Make My Video). Assuming rights make that a possibility.
Sadly, the 32X version also has the replaced controller from the 3DO version if I remember correctly =/ (the original shows an actual 3 button controller)
The footage that's in the opening of the 32X and 3DO version were shot BEFORE the Sega CD version's opening, which was the last thing from Night Trap to be shot... ever. However there is an opening that preceded even the 3DP/32X opening. You'll get that on the new release. It's super cheesy. I tried to show Melf but he didn't watch it.
Totally gonna buy this when it comes out.
My guess as to why they didn't use the newest opening for the 32X version is likely because Sega owned the new footage that was shot. Sega didn't release the 32X version themselves otherwise it probably would have been in there. Instead Digital Pictures handled the 32X version all by their lonesome. Sega released the game initially under their own label.
If I remember correctly games like Night Trap were originally developed The Hasbro Control-Vision (NEMO) in the 1980s. It was a VHS based system that never came out, but when the Sega CD came along the developers felt they could put them on that platform. I'm guessing the other intro with the different remote is probably the original footage shot for the Control-Vision version.
