Local Foods You Enjoy

Late to the party.

Neither my home town (in Portugal) nor my current town (in Belgium) have any particularly special local dishes, there is however a little portuguese food stall of sorts that shows up here on Saturdays. It sells a few typical Portuguese foods that I love:

Bolo do Caco, a sandwich from the island of madeira that is reminiscent of a burguer, but with a steak inside (and a special type of bread):

It also sells Pastel de Nata, a very typical portuguese pastry:

And Pasteis de Bacalhau, a very strange portuguese pastry made out of potato and salted codfish (it tastes a lot better than it sounds):

Man, those all look delicious. Much better than what I'm having for lunch today.

I really liked Croque Monsieur (or Mister Crunch) in Normandy and Monaco. West coast, I had crab mac & cheese, also good.

unpasteurized / raw milk which in PA is legal to sell in retail grocery stores, while you won’t it in any of the big chains you can find it in the organic stores, local co-ops and farm stores. All dairies selling this milk must have there cows check regularly by vets for any sorts of diseases or other problems and all milk is batch tested to make sure it’s safe to drink. While I know it’s legal in other states to sell raw milk at retail I don’t think it’s legal in any of the states bordering PA

I haven't had that since I used to stay on a farm and work when I was a kid.

I honestly don't remember what it tastes like.. How does it compare to the normal store bought stuff you can get pretty much anywhere?

Wish raw milk was available in my area. As a kid my one grandma had 3 cows and always drank fresh milk from outdoor grass eating cows.

It has a creamier smoother taste in my opinion

My mother had some friends with a few acres and cow and they were overwhelmed with the amount of milk it was producing. They would just shove and gallons of milk and monster chucks of butter in our hands. Best milk and butter I ever had. Really made me realize how horrible food tends to be in stores and especially in the States

I love Listeria.
