PS: how come this forum doesn't have an icon that's the Sega logo? (or more suitably for size, the S from the Sega logo)

I thought they went as far back as at least the '50's.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to the 1(even if former) first party company that was always an electronic gaming company.

I think 1960 is when the current incarnation was started (what we normally think as being Sega).

Current incarnation = Sega-Sammy circa 2004

The Sega half is still the one that was founded in 1960 (and right now it seems to be having more control than Sammy... the Sammy stuff is not doing that well). There was another Sega earlier that only did importing and shut down in favor of what became the current Sega.

I think the problem is that before 1960 it was several (sorta related) businesses spread over rather than a single "Sega" entity. Details seem to be muddly on this.

Modern Sega is stepping its (video)game up as of late. PC ports as promised, Yakuza like mad, and lots of other stuff, and the best Twitter personality hands down (Wendy was close, but the company cucked out because of that Toyotathon joke).

Like it or not, Sega has played a part in probably everyone's entertainment here in one way or another.

sega put out 4 of the best consoles of all time, then faded away - but last gen was fantastic for them, and as a yakuza/shenmue/wonder boy/toejam & earl/sonic etc fan this gen might surpass that.
