Don't much care about venture of both companies as much as I care about venture of us gamers.
Also seems like Sega only just recently fully acquired Atlas too (like a year ago), so not exactly 4 years ago as you all say.
^what an inane point to hang on
yeah, and with PSO 2.0 finally coming over this way, i'd say they're doing great! ive got yakuza: kiwami & sonic mania both in august alone, and yakuza 0 might still be my GOTY here. really can't wait to hear what they're doing with legacy stuff.
To be fair regarding NISA, they haven't been making many friends in a while exactly, especially not since certain incident with their parent company some years ago (which actually ended up with them losing one of the franchises that was starting to become quite important). I wouldn't be surprised if Sega still prefers to avoid dealing with them (or NIS).
I can't wait for Sonic Mania! I can't see it happening but for pure nostalgia's sake I would love for Sega to get back in the hardware market one day. They could make anything, doesn't have to be games related although I would hope it was! Hell, I'd buy a leaf blower if it had Sega written on the side! Sad but true...

In other words, Sega will be publishing Atlus' titles, but Atlus can still operate as it's own company and no games that would have been released before will be held back. In fact it's helped Sega bring over games they wouldn't have considered bringing over in the past.Quote:
Back in 2013, Sega acquired Atlus’ bankrupt parent company, then secured the developer in 2014. Now, Sega has finalized its acquisition of Atlus and will publish all of its future games in North America. This includes the eagerly anticipated Persona 5.
For those who may be worried about this: fear not. According to a press release from Sega, Atlus will continue to function as an individual entity. Sega stated that “no games or products will be adversely affected by the publisher unification.” Sega also said that Atlus USA has helped them localize games like Yakuza 5 and Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F since it integrated the company into its business.
“After nearly a year working under the Sega Games division, both Sega of America and Atlus USA have thrived and released a combined total of 23 game products,” said Atlus CEO Naoto Hiraoka. “Between Atlus’s ability to localize and release Japanese video game products efficiently and the strength of Sega of America’s reputation as a leading publisher in the industry, the situation could not be more symbiotic for both companies.”
Sega and Atlus coming together like this is certainly beneficial not only to both companies but to their respective fan bases. Sega has been in a bit of a slump for a while now while Atlus has consistently released quality titles that many enjoy. Not only does this union assure that Sega as a publisher will deliver better games to its fans, but it also assures that folks will continue to get Atlus titles for a good long while.
They made the purchase and acquired them 4 years ago, the process of fully merging the two just finished. That's two different things.
Where the hell did you read this? There's no plans for that as far as I can tell. In fact the only English version, the SEA version just recently announced it's shutting down. Most people at this point are just playing on the JP servers as fans have made it so easy it's the equivalent of it having an official release. Hell you can even import the Vita and PS4 versions and play just fine on your US PS Vita/PS4 with a US PSN account no problem.
Sonic Mania is definitely the most hype they've gotten for a game in an extremely long time. The question is, will they continue this trend with the massive amount of IP they have sitting in storage? There's an obvious demand for a new 2D Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Toejam and Earl, Shining Force, and other classics. If they can parlay this into games that the indie-hipster 90s millennial crowd is clamoring for, then I think the fortunes of the company can turn around, combined with more overseas releases of popular games like Yakuza and Shenmue III. If you continue to put out the same shovelware like Football Manager and crap 3D Sonic games though, then I'm not convinced that it's really going to go anywhere.
The fact that Sonic Mania is a fangame bankrolled by SEGA says it all. The company's employees and designers have little idea of what they're doing on the inside. If I were a real higher-up, I'd clean house and hire the best of the best Youtubers and fan-game makers and give them creative control over IPs that haven't been touched in decades. That's a winning combination.

wait what exactly are we referring to here
sorry here; i was so sure i saw something about sega & e3 but now i can't find it, leading me to believe i was likely piss-drunk and saw a rumor thread from a prior year or something.
i assume you can only access those fan servers from PC, yeah? would love to workaround on PS4 but i don't see it happening. mind-boggling that they didn't drop it during the first year of the PS4, that drought helped DC online & other F2P's do well enough
legit didn't know that bit...wow, yeah given the amazing stuff the community's done in recent years i guess it's not surprising.
holy hell, i wish they'd buy out the Streets of Rage fan remix thing and just sell it, i'd buy in day 1
Please think about that quote, it makes perfect sense.
Sega already has distribution for Europe handled on their own end, to continue to work with NISA to distribute Atlus games there would just be a waste of money. Also, I don't remember the last time Atlus published a NISA game (PS2 maybe?), since they've been a pretty successful publisher for quite awhile.
If the reviews of Persona 5 mean anything, Sega has been a perfectly fine steward of Atlus for the last 3 years or whatever.
