true, but at least StarFox & Yoshi's Island carts are still fairly cheap. you can also get Stunt Racer if you really don't like yourself

It would be awesome if someone made a raspberry pi shell with slots for the most popular systems built in so we can actually use our original carts. Basically a do-it-yourself Retron 5.
I had a Doom cart that didn't work, should definitely of kept it for that particular reason.
Oh well.
So I guess it's safe to say this is a controlled shortage. I mean, they sell out pre-oders, Nintendo comes out saying they have more, sell out, Nintendo says they have more, sell out, Nintendo says they have more, sell out...
At least Europe is getting... something. We here in the US haven't gotten any pre-orders yet.
I can't even give a shit about this after seeing the NESclassic and how they handled it.
They are fun looking distractions to get on the cheap. But the fact that you have to either get lucky as shit, or pay a massive markup in order to get one removes any reason to get one.
I'd rather spend a fraction of the cost you would likely need to get one and just make (or buy) another (and more functional) emulator system.
Yes, it won't be "official" Nintendo, and you would need to bump up the price to put it in as nice a shell, but unless you went crazy it would still cost you less.
And given the larger base of people that seem to think the SNES was the be all end all retro console I'm sure the SNES classic will command even higher prices than the NES one did.
These are "cute and cheap" stocking stuffer style gifts like those old Atari controller consoles.... except you can't get them without paying damn near full (or more) current gen console prices in order to own it.
All that adds up to me extending my hands to Nintendo, raising my middle fingers, then backing out the door to spend my money on something far more worthwhile.
Why can the SD2SNES can't support the FX chip. Also this can be stated about the Mega Everdrive with no SVP support and FM sound for SMS games.
The FPGA is too small to hold an entire CPU in it or if that's not the case then nobody is willing to put the effort into recreating the chips in the FPGA (which is a very non-trivial task).
