I just learn about this clone today and was already to ask on here about, ha.
Where finally getting closer and closer to a freaking decent Hdmi/good sound/ MD.

Guys! The quantity for these is spreading. Now China is listing them and for half the price.
Look at family enjoying their Sega Genesis! with PS2 controllers no less.

Don't suppose we know if they can be modified to run 50Hz?
This is the company that makes it: https://segaretro.org/Fei_Hao

It seems to sell for ¥198.00-¥ 208.00 at wholesale (~$29.66-$31.16 USD).
I wonder if there is a way to fix the audio mix. I dont mind not having stereo (too much) but I would love to have the bass and highs to leveled out properly as they seem to be a little hot in the highs.
I got mine yesterday. Very quick delivery from AliExpress. The build quality is solid. For some reason the headphone jack from mine didn't output any audio.
Some observations so far:
HDMI output is very good. Really useful for me as my TV doesn't have any legacy outputs.
No noticeable new slowdown or skipped frames
Good - fairly accurate audio
Played Everdrive
Worked with 3rd party controllers
The PAL region lock which unfortunately renders a lot of my cartridges useless
Audio still sounds funny at certain points - noticeable when I was playing SOR2
The mono sound does get annoying
A few games from the Everdrive didn't work - rockman, NBA jam TE, Blades of Vengeance crashed half way through the first level. I'll try different ROMs.
Overall very happy with this.
Here is the model 2 version. This one actually has the Mega Drive logo unlike the model 1 version, although I don't know why they did the buttons and cart door completely black. The power switch is better than the model 1 version and the included wired 6-button controller is better than the wired 3-button controller included in the model 1 version. The Mega CD cover is molded into the bottom casing unlike the model 1 version.

Hell, I kinda want the Model II for the box alone.
That's done damn fine box.
What the Select button on those controllers for? Or is it just a mislabeled Mode button?
Still mono only sound from the HDMI out on this MD II version I assume?
The MD2 version is also in mono. Seems to be identical to the MD1 version other than the lack of the headphone jack.
The Select button by itself doesn't seem to do anything. It doesn't seem to be a Mode button because if you hold it down then power the console on, it will just display a white screen.
I discovered that when the console is off, holding Select and the dpad in any direction for a few seconds will put the controller into what seems to be a pairing mode. The light on the controller will rapidly flash. When the console is powered on, the light stops flashing. The controller are automatically paired so you shouldn't even need to do this.
I also found out that when the console is on, holding Select and Start for a few seconds and the light will flash slowly. Then when you release the buttons, the console will reset.
Also for some reason, Fatal Fury 2 will not work with these wireless controllers. The controls are totally screwed up.
Does it work with the wired ones?Quote:

It works fine with the wired one.
Was taking a look at Fatal Fury 2's code and it seems like it's trying to tell if a controller is there by checking the peripheral ID (which is done by probing the values of the pins and looking for a pattern). Real controllers will pass the test, but I could see how something cheaply simulated may fail the test.
Other than that, I don't spot anything truly weird (aside from being somewhat overengineered). OK, it's setting some bits that shouldn't get set, but the hardware should be ignoring them anyway since it was told to do so =P
I just discovered a weird thing with my Fei Hao clone (the MD1 HD model), it has a big problem with highlight / shadow : it looks like the highlight / shadow effect is completely missing !
In fact strangely enough, highlight / shadow sprite operators (color 0x3E and 0x3F) seems to be somehow recognized as these sprite aren't draw when highlight / shadow is enabled, but so they are just transparent while still hiding overlapped sprites. In this end they just act as masking sprite to make background appearing on overlapped sprites (visible on Street Racer intro, where PRESS START test can sometime override some racer sprite).
Is my clone broken or is it the case of all TCT6803 based clones ? Note that i'm using HDMI output, maybe the issue doesn't exist with RCA output...
Hii everyone, yesterday i put a mega amp circuit on this clone and sounds fantastic, but I can't get stereo audio through the HDMI out because are only one input for analog audio, so I connect the mono output on the audio input for the HDMI encoder and the full stereo out on the RCAs outputs behind on the system, I will upload photos on the night time
I tested the RCA and even if it has 2 audio output (L and R) it looks like it's also mixed mono audio only :-/
I wonder if there is a way to retrieve stereo from somewhere else. I'm the only one experiencing missing Highlight / shadow effect ??
Nice to these have mass produce and out on sale in many areas on the net. Still, were finally get close to a clone console, just fix the image issues and sound to true stereo.
Same thing as in OP but 10 dollars cheaper.

Cheaper on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-Bit-Video...AAAOSwFKZZkq35
I remember paying double that on Taobao using a middleman service, but that was before they were available on ebay/aliexpress.
Another interesting thing is that the composite output works fine with the Framemeister's composite input. This was surprising since I have two other clone consoles and an official Genesis 3, and none of those work with the Framemeister's composite input (the colors are all screwed up).
Also, someone modded it to restore Virtua Racing compatibility:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_f-McbmKUE
"Does not ship to Canada." Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu... guess I'll look elsewhere.
And I see someone's following the same method I used to fix Virtua Racing on the TCT-6801, but why the switch? Just directly bridge pins B11 and B26 and wire the cartridge slot's VCC pins directly to the first of the two series diodes while throwing that 10ohm resistor in the trash.
RGB out definitely looks sharper. Good to hear that the sound is accurate enough. Is the playing experience authentic? Any lag?
I think the point is that the switch technically shouldn't be needed since the wiring of the cartridge would already take care of that.
No lag, and if you are happy with mono sound why not. For me the biggest issue is the lack of stereo sound, the wrong sound mix (PSG is too loud) and the FM seems to saturate more than it should sometime. But lately i discovered the highlight / shadow effect doesn't work at all and this one is a big issue imo as it definitely alter the gaming experience, some game use it a lot and you can even have missing part of graphic because of that :-/
Don't suppose there's any way to mod in Shadow/Highlight? Has anyone tried to figure out extensively how the video output works before hitting the HDMI scaler?
S∕H should be already applied to the generated signal and I doubt they'd spend extra pins on the clone chip to output S/H signals. Forget it.
And yeah, depending how broken S/H is, Project MD has a level that can become a complete pain in the ass to play (if it's like AtGames' implementation, pixels outright go transparent and you can't see anything that was meant to be translucent).
That's, background shadow just doesn't apply but sprite H/S is transparent so you don't see transparent stuff, they are just missing :-/
Can't find the thread for the Atgames HD genesis but their currently being sold for $60 over here.

There seems to be a newer version with built-in games:

What was the final outcome of the stereo mod? Any guides to installing? How's the SQ?
On the last month I already put a mega amp circuit and the audio is hell beauty, but I can't send stereo audio to the HDMI video converter, ace explain why the GTI chip can't get stereo audio, but I got the full stereo audio from the RCA connectors and the mono output for the HDMI encoder
Don't suppose anyone else has tried to use an alternate HDMI encoder?
I am pretty sure the video can be scaled in a much sharper manner.
It'd be quite nice if someone made a custom FPGA HDMI encoder for this GOAC alone, but I know it probably isn't worth the community effort.
I think I might just get someone to desolder all of the wiring on mine, clean up the hot glue, mod it to work with SVP chip and rewire it back with proper wires, I might also add a missing cartridge slot "guides" or whatever they're called from the original Genesis.
p.s. and mod it to stereo whenever it becomes available.
Ok here we are, did a cartridge bay mod, now the carts slide in right away...
plus the fear of breaking the logic board is gone forever : )

I just noticed that headphone jack sound is very very low... any ideas how to fix that?
Anyone?
