I remember the good ol' days of playing online games for hours on end, but then life happened and I don't really miss online gaming because it requires a lot of energy and time investment if you want to be any good. Nowadays I much prefer retro games because they're easy to just turn on and play for 30 minutes at a time.
Well ask yourself this, why would players play games that long if it's a nightmare and there's no enjoyment in it? I recall when I first discovered Shining Force 3 Scenarion 1-3 for the first time, it was all I played for 10 months like a kid who had a 10 month summer vacation (was during a time I quit my night shift job and had all the time in the world for gaming, working out and eating ice cream on beautiful sun lite days). To this day I treasure those memories and still my favorite game of all time.Quote:

And things that grabbed me about ME3mp kept coming the more I played, as my learning curve with that game was a very long one. There are 4 difficulty levels, I played mostly 2nd one until around 400hrs, where after I finally got comfortable enough to transition to 3rd difficulty which I stayed with until something like 1400hrs (most players prefer and play 3rd difficulty). Now I exclusively play the hardest one, Platinum. Part of the reason it took me so long to advance in difficulty in that Mass Effect was my first experience with 3rd person shooters and I also don't play fps games at all either. So I started like a baby giraffe taking its first steps (despite having replayed Mass Effect Trilogy numerous times by now, as I didn't really start learning to play these games until I went online). Second, I was in no rush to move up in difficulty, despite the bigger cash payout to unlock equipment, characters and weapons. Because I was strictly playing for fun, unlocking new content reward for playing was just a secondary thing for fun like icing on a cake.
I'm fortunate & thankful enough that this is still not my problem as I still have all the time in the world for gaming. For good or bad that it may be.Quote:

Whether you play fewer or more games, as long as it keeps you playing & entertained, it's all good. But I've noticed these days with access to way more games then I had as a kid, that things are much different. I recall as a kid reading gaming magazines dreaming of owning all the games I would see in those mags, forced to make my lists of games to buy smaller and smaller and only the best of the best. Now the day has come where I have all those games on my PC and it's just overload.
Another thing about having access to too many game for me personally is my moods for what to play next not always being aligned. If the last or past few games I've played were very good, other games have a harder time living up to or just not matching the mood right away. This is where comfort zone of choosing to replay said game(s) become a no-brainner. Especially when some games are very one of a kind. ie. Can't think of any other game experiences like Dark Souls, big reason to why folks keep coming back to this series.
Also sometimes replaying games and really getting good at them reveals a very fresh and new experience. ie. All those folks chasing 1cc don't do it for just masochism and bragging rights.
