list of arcade ports ?

can't find one, please help!

I'm looking for the list of arcade games ported to the MD (and maybe MCD/32x) and all I can find are recommended ports lists.

I don't care about regions as long as the game was licensed somewhere in the world.

Closest I found is this for the GG and fot the moment I'm using this list and using the "(Genesis)" tagged games, but my guess is that it only means there is the same game on another platform, not necessarily on arcades. Also somewhat helpful is every exclusive games list but it doesn't tell me which of the other games come from the arcade.

I've never seen a list, but I don't think it would take too long to put together. I'm certainly interested in knowing the number of arcade ports, particularly broken down by year (what percent of early releases were arcade ports?).

I suggest just going through the Wikipedia list for starters and compiling a list that way: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._Genesis_games

While most of the arcade ports are obvious, if you aren't sure, you can just click on the title and check its release history, assuming it has its own Wiki page. Of course, there might be an error or two on Wikipedia, but post the preliminary list here and I'm sure people will help out.

I'm actually trying, I hope I'll have the time. I'm starting with some spreadsheet that was given to me when I listed the ~903 games that have been published for the system. I'm leaving out any unreleased, prototype, unlicensed game out, also I'm not taking care of MCD/32x for the moment so feel free to help with that (thank goldenband btw).

I'm doing these columns:
year of the game / title of the game / year of the MD port / title of the MD port (if different).

I'm considering the term "port" very loosely because that's the purpose of a list like that (meaning Super Fantasy Zone is going to be considered a port of arcade's Fantasy Zone, etc.)

EDIT: maybe I'll keep the columns for developer, publisher and region.

I'm beginning by adding Marble Madness & Klax x2 port situation and 8 games that never get listed due to them being presented in compìlations (Atari's and Williams arcade classics). So the first arcade game ported to the system is from 1972 (published just some 24 years later... and even then, not sure if it's arcade perfect, hehe).

I'm using the more convenient wikipedia's list of arcade games and following my customized spreadsheet, deleting those who aren't present on the arcade list. I don't see myself clicking through 900+ games though I'm surfing Sega Retro from time to time.

Here's a JP exclusive that is questionably a port that most people would miss: Mahjong Cop Ryuu

The story elements have been changed, but the gameplay is exactly the same as the "undress mahjong" arcade game Sukeban Janshi Ryuuko, which was released in 1988 on Sega's System 16.

The Japanese wikipedia for Sukeban Janshi Ryuuko says: "The Mega Drive game Mahjong Cop Ryuu is officially called a sequel, but in reality it's a port with the adult elements removed."

So I guess it's a borderline case.

@ Gryson noted, thanks. There will be A LOT of borderline cases, but I will include most or all of them because that's the purpose of the list. I'm keeping the original + port titles to reflect that. Many ports are more like sequels but as long as it's just a sort of expansion (Gauntlet 4) and not a different, new game (Revenge of Shinobi), they will be included.

I think Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is a Sega CD original. It's completely different from Capcom's arcade beat-em-up.

Yeah, I have a text file with the library to track what I play, what games I own (or "own"), etc. It didn't take very long, actually.

BTW if you need a reference for Genesis/Mega Drive games, you might try Goati's MegaMarathon spreadsheet, which is likely to be more accurate in some respects than Wikipedia. It has a tab that should list all Mega Drive games from any region.

Ah, thanks for those. I knew something was funny about C&D but forgot to look up what, and I also had a vague memory of some golf or baseball game that had complicated origins, so I appreciate the catch on both counts. :)

That's how it's going to be like atm, with better presentation as it will be a spreadsheet you can sort by year of the game, year of the MD port publishing, etc.

Just finished with the '#' & 'A' : 16 games due to arcade compilations. I'm reading your comments: I already had that list but I prefer this one from another user I'll give credit to (must find it on that thread first), because you can trim unreleased, unlicensed, etc. games easily.

No to both of those. If Sega Retro or wikipedia is unclear about any game, you can check mobygames and its screenshot comparisons.

ok thanks, I'm quite a fan of Sega Retro's presentation. Another dubious case is Mega Bomberman. Of course it's not a 1986 Bomberman (MSX/NES) port, but it looks quite like the 1991 Arcade version (Dynablaster) which seemed to set the visual standard for the series in that decade. Even if the MD game is a port of the 94 PC Engine version, I'm doubtful. My guess is that if Contra or Castlevania are not considered (console) ports, neither should this one, right?

EDIT: on an interesting note some games got ported to the arcade after the MD version (which is usually a port itself): Battletoads, Sailor Moon...
