Gamecube HDMi Video Adaptor.

So yeah a friend of mine sent me this link from Metal Jesus Rocks channel. I don't normally watch his channel a lot outside of a few things here and there but this was pretty much worth checking out.

Just from the videos I've seen the difference is fucking amazing. It only works on the original cubes with the Multi-Out ports but even so I have a feeling this is going to take off well. I've already decided I want one.

Even tho I own the component cables I'm seriously happy someone finally found a way to get past them.

Definitely a nice product! I for one never understood the amount of homebrew development on the internal mod. I had some spats with GC-Forever members over that. Modding the GC never made sense, not when that DV-OUT port outputs all the signals necessary for HDMI, unlike say something like an N64.

Yeah, looks like a nice overall solution. What is the price though?

Eesh, that's a lot just to be able to play my GBA games beautifully.

I watched the video this morning, and my question was..."did he just not know about S-video all of those years?" They really do look a lot better than the composite that he's using.

The HDMI looks good though, although not quite as nice as the component cables. It could just be his capture and/or youtube compression having that effect on the video though.

Making a video like this and only comparing it to composite is intentionally misleading. An expert on game solutions should also have used the custom GBA player software out there to actually do a fair comparison of video quality. Chances are he's using an upscaler before capturing video and that can multiply artifacts from a lower quality source.

Hopefully someone will do a good comparison of s-video vs component on both crt and hdtvs and then compare the hdmi quality. I'd consider buying one, but it would only get used for capturing video and won't improve my experience playing a Gamecube on the kind of TV it was made for.

The best thing this could do is bring down the price of component cables for those of us who want to play GBA games on a crt.

I'd be surprised if My Life in Gaming didn't already cover that territory. I'd do it, but honestly it's a lot of work (for one person) for minimal views. Plus, I'm already working on something else.

From personal experience, the difference on my CRT between S-video and Component is subtle, but noticeable. However, on my LCD EDTV, the difference is huge. Component makes both S-video and Composite look like crap.

One of the issues with the unique Gamecube video situation is that the framemeister doesn't deal as well with component as it does s-video. Progressive scan supported games would make the big difference though.

They still wouldn't look too great, since the Game Boy Player uses a bit of (bilinear?) blurring.

With the official software, leaving it at normal scale with the sharp filter in progressive looks decent depending on your TV scaler.

Haven't tried the Game boy interface, but that's supposed to be better.

The Gameboy Interface makes a HUGE difference. If you can, give it a try.

With gamecube the progressive scan is programmed in the software right? so this hdmi box is useless for pal I fear.

With a PAL GameCube you're probably just better off using the RGB from the system and then using some sort of external upscaler if you want.

I think that Component on Gamecube (Progressive Scan) makes S-Video look like crap, while Component on Genesis makes it look only slightly better than SNES with S-Video and a mile better than Genesis with composite.
