Button preferences

I was playing Panzer Dragoon 1 and Sonic 1 last night and I thought of a dumb question that I've been wondering about since I was a kid. In games like that where all the buttons (A, B, and C or what have you) do the same thing, do you have one that you automatically use? I realized years ago that I use the A button for Sonic and noticed that was the one I was using in Panzer Dragoon as well. The A button chose me, I didn't choose it. Anyone else ever notice?

The "A" button on my lifelong favorite 3 button Genesis pad is noticeably more shiny than the others. I played tons of sonic, and other platformers as a kid, and always jumped with "A". Even today I will choose "A" when all buttons do the same thing. Pretty much the same story for Saturn, as the controller layout is very similar. For controllers with a diamond button arrangement, I choose hit the lowest center button if given the choice.

C or B for me.

I think as a kid I chose C, nowadays it might be B, since I'm used to it being the action button in most Genesis games.

C was always my goto "jump" button, B my goto "action" button. If every button was the same, I would use one or the other depending on what it actually did.

"B" for action, "C" for jump and "A" handled the special attack or whatever.

If it's associated with a jumping action, I automatically go with "C". But I've used "A" a lot too.

C-button for me. Work my way right-to-left when it comes to buttons.

C button or go to hell. In the case of Sonic and Panzer Dragoon, though, I'll also piano across all three buttons to rev up a spin dash or shoot the shit out of something, respectively.

Also you can tell here who has long fingers because they prefer to use the A button on a 3 button controller. Using that button is extremely uncomfortable in any other case.

The technique of pros. Though for Panzer Dragoon these days I cheat and use turbo fire.

For me, if I can help it, it has always been:

A = Shoot / Punch / Object Select
B = Slash / Kick / Go Back
C = Jump / Menu

I never cut my nail too short, so always have a little white showing. Where am I going with this? Well since we're talking rapid fire techniques, always having some nail on my thumb has lead me develop it into a rapid fire technique. I use the thumbnail and just kinda spaz my entire hand ever so slight from the wrist so that the nail kinda vibrates back and forth ever so slightly. Because the movement is so slight/minuscule, it's perfect for on/off rapid fire. Since the less movement involved the faster you can alternate between on and off.

A (or a leftmost button) for jump, B (or some other middle button) for fire or second most used action, C (or rightmost button) for whatever rarely used thing. Natural position for my thumb lands exactly on A, with C being the most uncomfy button to press.
