What to look for when buying an Xbox 360?

I am planning on getting one locally mainly to play Blue Dragon and a few other JRPGs, since my PS3 died and I don't have many consoles left to play on. What should I looked out for when buying one? The store nearby has the 20GB model for about $60 secondhand (A Gamer's Paradise here in Vegas, they are pretty knowledegable about this stuff overall so I expect them to be aware of the potential problem with whatever they sell, and give a one-month warranty). That model should be good enough for whatever I want to play. I am using my store credit to purchase that and some games. Let me know what I should be aware of before buying it.

As far as hardware, go for a Model S (model 2) with 250GB or more, or a model E (model 3) with 500 GB.

I am a super late adopter of the 360 myself, so I admit my reasons to get one at the end of its lifecycle was mainly for exclusives. There are a multitude of reasons why I never got it at first, like the first model's inevitable red ring of death, scratched discs, small memory, etc. None of those are an issue anymore. But by the time I wanted to buy one, I was already deep into my PS3 and preferred to keep my library of multiplats down to one system for simplicity's sake. I also got hooked on Sony's trophy system. I also started buying whichever console version was cheapest, but that didn't last long. So, I'll go ahead and recommend every single exclusive you can snatch for the 360.



Interesting that you're going for Blue Dragon. Not many folks go for it, but I think it looks beautiful. I tried it myself, but the lack of camera axes inversion kept me out of it. I'll come back to it eventually.

I wouldnt even waste your time on a 360. Wait untill the XBox One X ships and there's bound to be loads of great deals on XBox One S. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey are BC and both run and look better on the XBox One S. That way not only will you be able to play most of the great 360 games but also XBox One ones and its also a great media centre and BluRay player to boot

Actually, I've decided against spending my credit on this machine. I remembered that I find long-winded JRPGs or fast-paced multiplayer games to be burdensome nowadays, so I am just going to buy five more Nintendo DS Lites and five copies of Clubhouse Games to go with them, as well as individual chargers (I already own a few systems and copies of the game). That's the only true 'game' I even play anymore and want to play with family and friends. Much better investment. I may also use my credit to get a Nintendo DSi XL just for my kanji dictionary and DS e-Reader to look nicer. Thanks for the recommendations, but none of the games, mainly the exclusives, look to be up my alley, as they follow the typical dudebro wifebeater formula that most frat-rats prefer. I am more into slower paced, strategy-oriented things which are not fashionable these days (if they ever were). I could also invest in a decent PC setup to play StarCraft via local wireless now that both the original and Brood War are legal freeware and support HD with the latest patch. Again, much better investment. I am glad this occurred to me. Apologies for bothering anyone about this.

Probably get an S used, have it modded (pretty inexpensive), install a 2TB internal...

Yep. I can't stand FPS games or most AAA stuff, and I have over 500 titles for the system.

You can look for Raiden Fighters Aces? ... Man, what's up with these Japanese names with two words ending in "s" right next to each other like Demon's Souls. I never pronounce them this way and always drop the first s. If I pronounce Raiden Fighters Aces properly I feel like some Japanese man in a Japanese commercial.
