I think Monkeyball is the best game on the system. Also love and really rate ....
RE 0 (one of the best RE games)
Star Fox Adv - I just don't get the hate
Sega Soccer Slam - overlooked gem of a game thats so much fun
Metroid Prime - Almost as good as Exhumed
Vewtiful Joe - classic game if a little too hard
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat - Classic game so much fun and so clever too
Star WarsRS II - Great game and also one of the best looking games from that gen too
F-Zero GX - The days when SEGA Japan were The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be
The GameCube was my favourite Nintendo console. Much preferred it to the N64 and gimmicky Wii. My favourite games on it were the Resident Evil Remake, that game still looks stunning today fourteen years after it's release, and Resident Evil Zero. Yeah OK so I was a big Resi fan back in the day but they really were worth owning a GameCube for. I also had the Game Boy Advance adaptor for the GameCube and spent countless days playing Advance Wars on my TV. Good times!
These haven't been listed yet.
Ikaruga (fun and very unique shoot em up)
Star Wars Rebel Strike (sequel to Rogue Leader, includes original arcade game as unlockable)
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (excellent strategy rpg)
Skies of Aracadia (expanded version of DC game)
I bought a Gamecube as soon as PSO Ep I & II was released. The offline mode is still my favorite GC game.
The only game I've completed on GameCube is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It gets a bad rep -- I certainly wouldn't claim it's among the system's "best" games -- but my wife and I enjoyed it enough to complete it 100% on all difficulties. (We were less thrilled with its sequel.)
We like beat-'em-ups/hack-'n'-slash games, and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is on our to-play list. I'm sure it'll be very good, though I know the GC version is buggy. We've also put a lot of time into Super Monkey Ball 2, which has fantastic minigames.
I keep meaning to play more GameCube, at least in principle; I've got a ton of games for it, but I seldom feel the urge to play it. I guess I'm just more of a 20th-century gaming guy. Still, I've gotten a little ways into a couple of other games like Looney Tunes: Back in Action, Robotech: Battlecry, and Fantastic 4, none of which are that great. X-Men Legends seems like it could be kinda cool.
LOL... I love everything you’ve said here, but i’ll probably sound patronizing if I go into more detail. But sincerely, I tried to rep you but apparently I still need to spread some around first.
I didn’t play any of the GameCube turtles games, but I looked at them more than once because the first two games allowed you to unlock the arcade games. I never pulled the trigger on them because I didn’t really care for the “New” TMNT series and didn’t want to put in the work to get what I really wanted.
Star Fox Adv is a great Zelda game.
I enjoyed Star Fox Assault.
F-Zero GX. Kind of a one trick pony IMO.
Super Mario Sunshine sucks. So does Luigi's Mansion.
Sonic gam-ok ok but the GC was the goto Sonic Team machine for the generation.
I've also heard Billy Hatcher is good but haven't played it.
I'm also interested in these, but strictly exclusives.
Mr. Driller Drill Land
Odama
F-Zero GX
Beach Spikers
GameBoy Player
Phantasy Star Online III
Billy Hatcher
Skies of Arcadia (due to the changes)
Those are the exclusives and games/options worth keeping the system around. Mr. Driller Drill Land is one of my most favorite games ever. It's amazingly well done and a shame it hasn't appeared elsewhere.
I will try comment a resume of all posts. Thanks for all tips.
First, thanks to BT and Benjamin. I dont knew that PS online was ported to GCN (i was thinking that it were a PS2 game only) and you can play it offline.
im aware about Metroid, Star Fox (however i dont knew about 2 titles), F-Zero, Beach Spikers, Skies of Arcadia, Luigi's Mansion and DK Jungle beat.
I guess strange noboby have mentioned RE4 and CapvsSNK2.
Im excited about many RE different but i dont know if there is the respective Wii versions these titles or is exclusive for those generation (Xbox original, PS2 GCN).
I will take note about:
Sega Soccer Slam, Billy Hatcher, TMNT and others.
Im very very excite about Star Wars games. I hope that it to be good with a lot of fun because i love SW series.
At the time I wasn't looking twice at video games, but from a Nintendo-standpoint and coming off the N64 it seemed as if the Gamecube really bolstered some solid titles with support to match.
Today, I feel like it's the scenario of the 'grass being greener.'
I honestly find fewer games on the GC than N64 that I would own and play. And to me Mario Sunshine says it all really. At first glance looks vibrant and exciting, but then plays shallow and you want to hurt yourself after for trying.
So exclusives I'd pick:
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door - The only N64 sequel I think that was as good.
Chibi-Robo!: With your Zeldas, Metroids, and Dreamcast ports aside, Chibi-Robo is a stand-out GC game.
And that's it. I don't know any other exclusive Gamecube games worth mentioning.
I actually have a lot of fondness for the GameCube, but I've been delaying giving a real list of recommendations until I got home and looked over my collection.
Unfortunately, a lot of the best GameCube games have since been ported to later-gen systems, but I'll mention a few of them.
Pikmin 1 & 2: Two of my favorite games on the system, but they both were ported to the Wii... and these were the rare games that were actually complimented by motion controls. The Wii ports are probably cheaper, too.
Resident Evil 4: One of my favorite games ever, but I think most people neglected to mention it because it was only a GameCube exclusive for a second. The Wii version or the HD downloadable versions are probably superior.
Rogue Squadron 2 & 3: I love Rogue Squadron 2. 3 is... okay.
Chibi Robo: Gah! Ninja'd by Lync!
Battalion Wars: It's Advance Wars in 3D, but not as good.
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes: The PS1 original is better, but this is still quite playable.
Mario Kart - Double Dash: I know this title is divisive, but it's one of my favorites in the series.
Smash Bros Melee: I mention this only because I don't think anyone else did.
Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 0
Legend of Zelda - Wind Waker: Another divisive one, but I love it. If you've got a WiiU, however, get the HD remake.
Star Fox - Assault: Yes, it's good. Especially the first stage. Didn't care for the direction the story took for the rest of the game, though.
Metroid Prime 1 & 2: Both amazing games, and both remade with (arguably) better controls on the Wii.
Edit: Oh, and I second Paper Mario. Forgot about that one.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I did not like Resident Evil 0 at all. The switching between characters, the dumbwaiters, hookshot areas. It was closer to a bunch of small things and mechanics that annoyed me to the point where I wasn't pleased. I'd seriously play Survivor before playing 0.
It does have North American exclusives of Chaos Field and Ikaruga.
Kururin Squash
Radirgy GeneriC
Odama
Pool Edge
DK Jungle Beat
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
How about the SpongeBob games by Heavy Iron Studios, as well as Lights, Camera, Pants?
Here's some games that haven't been mentioned yet.
Puyo Pop Fever
Tales of Symphonia
Baten Kaitos
For sure - Chibi always stuck out to me because it seemed like quirky fun.
As I was older the light-hearted story and undertones probably made me feel anxious; otherwise just let me be a robot and run around.
Paper Mario always gets overlooked! Haha. It's cool.
I always felt that most the N64 sequels on GC looked better, but played only the same if not worse. Paper Mario on GC seemed like the only title to try and build on its foundation.
Reflecting on the GC reminds me on how disjointed I felt during this generation.
Interesting Chibi Robo. I discovered that GCN have 8/16 bits collections. I saw that there is Megaman collection, Megaman X collection, Sonic Mega Collection (Sonic Gems too). How many "Collections" this console could to have?
I think you nailed them all there. I personally can't stand 'collections.'
I loved F-Zero on both, X and GX were great and that is definitely one game were I felt had made progression from N64 to GC.
But I was probably just generalizing my attitudes toward the GC - I didn't find games like Wave Race, Super Smash, Mario Kart on GC nearly as enjoyable as on N64. Looked great, but felt flat to me. Perhaps my taste (age) in games had settled by then.
The big disappointment to me still is Mario 64. What a God-forsaken kick in the face Sunshine was.
Also no Kirby game? Perhaps for the best, I loved Crystal Shards 64.
For what it's worth, Gamecube is cool. Just thought it was more of a side-step following the N64 with even fewer games if that's possible.
Personally, I love the collections discs, even if I hardly ever play them. The Mega Man Anniversary collection is probably worth skipping, but Mega Man X is quite uncommon on the GameCube, so snatch it up if you get the chance.
Midway also has three game collections on the GameCube, and there's also the Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition (but good luck finding it).
I dunno. Sunshine is arguably not really a sequel to 64. I do agree that no Kirby game is a shame. I was sad when it was cancelled.
Still though, the Gamecube had a larger library than the N64. I think where it shines (and the responses in this thread mostly concur) is more with games that had no N64 counterpart. Super Monkey Ball, Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe, Pikmin (though I prefer the Wii version now), PSO, DK Jungle Beat, etc.
One game that hasn't been mentioned yet that I really enjoyed is Alien Hominid. It's basically a toony Metal Slug and that's a good thing. That whole generation kinda suffered from an overall lack of quality 2D games.
You're right, I know Sunshine isn't a dedicated sequel to 64, but it sure is what came after and it didn't deliver like I expected. It is the Sonic Adventure 2 to my Sonic Adventure. (Haha, how ya like that for analogies?)
Did it though? Did Gamecube really have a larger library? Excluding Dreamcast ports, GBA support - it seems so thin to me. But what you've mentioned I see from the other end of the tunnel where games likes Star Fox 64, Kirby 64 or Sin & Punishment didn't have counterparts to. Or Bomberman 64. I love that game. Why did Hudsonsoft stumble around after that one?
Lack of 2D is right. Even then, the only thing I can think of on 64 is Mischief Makers so maybe GC has it beat there.
Yeah, that was a good one, I played through it again just recently.
But like a lot of the good games you could mention on the GameCube, it was also on the PS2 and Xbox. I remember two or three pretty intense "BEST GAMECUBE GAMES" discussions on here over the years, and that was always a roadblock that most of us ran into. I think Beyond Good & Evil fell into that trap as well.
Oh, Eternal Darkness. I've never played it, but it's a GameCube exclusive that people usually rave about.
There are some games on the PS2 that don't even support progressive scan. I believe those included titles like I-Ninja, the Viewtiful Joe games and Super Monkey Ball.
I think I liked Bomberman Generation more than Bomberman 64. But yes, Gamecube's total library is about twice the size of the N64's. It didn't sell as well as the N64, but those little discs were a lot cheaper than cartridges.
The Xbox version of Alien Hominid was PAL only, I'm pretty sure. And the PS2 version is inferior. So I count that one for the Gamecube. Beyond Good & Evil, though, I have for Xbox.
Midway Arcade treasures 1,2 and 3. Amazing! Thanks a lot. If you knew about more collections im grateful.Quote:

Considering that im playing these games in my Wii i have two doubt.
Which best mode for play GC? Progressive Scan or not?
How i could play DK Jungle beat without those "bongos"?
Alien Hominid (i saw in YT) seems more with Earthworm Jim to me.Quote:
One game that hasn't been mentioned yet that I really enjoyed is Alien Hominid
Oh, here we go.
No, I just mean this one:

I didn’t care about the Ocarina of Time disc.
There's nothing wrong with having the Ocarina of Time Master Quest version of the game.
What is that Donkey Kong item in the top right?
I'm not sure if most people here even know about Alien Hominid. It was a Newgrounds flash game at first created by the founder of that site.
GameCube got a lot more than 300 titles, which is where the N64 was for a total library. It got the non-Mario sports games. It had a Metal Gear Solid port. Resident Evil was represented well. Medal of Honor, 2K Sports, Star Wars and many more. It is a bit of a problem since a number of the third parties on it were also on PS2 and Xbox if you had one of those two systems.
Home Run King and Beach Spikers were exclusive 3rd party titles from Sega.
Cool!
I had a friend that had a Colecovision, back in the mid 80s. His dad owned a hair salon chain in Portland Oregon and he would occasionally stay with his mom in Montana. He had the Super Action controllers, along with about a dozen games.
I thought that all of the Colecovisions had Donkey Kong as a pack-in.
