Lol, I agree. It's no surprise they just re-marketed it as the Kid's Club controller in the US.
wait, what?
I don't have big hands so I can use the Japanese 6-button pad just fine, although I think I prefer the international one. That being said, the cable length is just ridiculous; were they expecting the console to be sitting on your lap?
In truth, I'd probably rate the Saturn pad slightly above the MD pad simply because of the shoulder buttons; they can be quite useful, especially when used on a PC.
Even a low-cost 3rd party one feels great. Even the AtGames ones are worthwhile.
I find the controller a the cheap side but it does work like a charm. I use only for games requiring such buttons. I prefer stick with the original bigger model!!
Dual Shock one through three for me but if keeping the talk on Sega the second generation Saturn because of the more (shoulder) buttons or other wise MK-1653. I do like holding the MK-1650 and it's big Trigger buttons though. Edit: Well these days I use the Mega Fire MK-1657 mostly for non six button games.. the inners and feel of model 2 with the look of a model 1 Genesis pad.
also is Hyperkin's GN6 bigger than the japanese official 6pad? And smaller than eu/us model (according to the reviews)?
When I have a functioning PC, I have a 6 button plugged into it, but I do think the 3 button is the most comfortable I've ever held.
Sorry I misspoke, it was called the Sega Club in the US. But it was all stuff branded for younger kids to play on the Genesis. I think there is a thread on Sega16 about controller variants they talk about it. You can also see a picture of the box here: http://www.segaretro.org/Six_Button_...d_(Mega_Drive)
yes found the thread (and lost it again), so I have a childish smaller controller from an already-a-bit-too-small 6 button pad. damn it I need those 6 buttons, there's way more games than people remember that use them, though many aren't critical, but well, if you can have hotkeys in your pad without the hassle of configuring them, why not?
I find I like the Saturn or Sega 6 button. kind of tie for me. I hadn't really played the Sega systems till recently but I find that those two sega controllers feel the best. the ones, pc engine and fighting pads of the 16 era all are somewhat comfortable to me, but the sega ones are the only ones that I pick up and feel one with the controls.
I love the Genesis 6 button controller, although I'll never understand why Sega didn't add shoulder buttons after seeing the SNES controller. I don't mind about the lack of Select button, but L and R would have been awesome. Well, they added them in the Saturn pad.
I'm currently using a Hyperkin GN6 USB on my Raspberry Pi with my custom Mega Drive emulator frontend. Very similar, but buttons and Dpad are really hard.
I'm looking forward to seeing reviews for the new Retro-bit Sega-licensed controllers. Their old replicas weren't very good quality, but these seem very promising. I wish 8bitdo made those, though.
I can think a bunch of 5/10 passable games on the Megadrive/Genesis that would instantly become 8/10 or even 9/10 titles if only 6pad had been there in time for them / had been supported.
Let's name just the obvious: Syndicate.
Block Out comes to mind, I've been saying for years that I should hack it to support the 6 button controller. I'll probably never stop being lazy tho =P
I love the Sega 6-Button controller. I got one so early on after it released, that I can't really use the 3-button pads.
