PSP games you've enjoyed (no compilations, denied)

Love my PSP and it's all charged up for some more action, but mostly use it for emulation and compilations like the fabulous Gradius/Salamander Collections. Would be nice to see some truly enjoyed games. To start things off, I'll list my most enjoyed PSP games;

Ys I & II Chronicles (bumb into enemies action JRPG)

If you ever wanted to get into and see if this series is for you, this is it. This was my introduction to Ys and still my favorite in this series. The only one I didn't like on PSP is the 7th one and unfortunately, that seems to be the direction for the future of this series.

I was very surprised by this RPG, felt like a classic PS1 era RPG and had me hooked from beginning to cliffhanger end. Which reminds me, the sequel has been officially translated for awhile now.

I’ve got some.

Pursuit Force: It’s basically “GTA Chase Sequences: The Game,” and it’s awesome. Fantastic soundtrack from Richard Jacques, also.

LocoRoco 1 & 2: Not even ISIS is impervious to this game’s saccharine charm.

Patapon: It’s a rhythm game and a real-time strategy game.

God of War - Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta: Excellent adaptations of the console series, with graphics & story that can easily stand alongside the original trilogy (but not Ascension, which had amazing graphics and a shit story).

Mega Man - Powered Up: Fantastic re-imagining of the original NES game with adorable character models and music, two (iffy) new robot masters, and a slew of extra challenges to beef up the experience. I imagine Capcom didn’t continue this series because it would be too daunting to put in this amount of effort another five times. Also, Capcom hates Mega Man.

Lumimes was my jam for a while.

Speaking of compilations, I’ve been looking for the Gradius one for a while.

Oh, it's ace. Still only way I can play Gradius IV too. Gradius Gaiden has a bit of extra slowdown (very noticeable at crystal stage boss). Salamander and Parodius PSP Collections still happen to be my only imports, ever. Twinbee Collection managed to find locally by chance, wasn't planning on ever getting, but since it was there... so yeah, have all 4 Collections.

The Gradius Collection is excellent, as is the Metal Slug Anthology.

Star Trek Tactical Assault is pretty cool, but I'm stuck on a level where I have 2 ships going against my single ship. I've survived that, but you still end up in another battle on your way back to the Star Base and the damage taken from the previous battle is too much to get past the last ship.

I've recently picked up Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins, but I've yet to try it out. It's a somewhat rare title for the handheld, and that's why I had to pay $25 for it.

At Gamevet: wasn’t there an R-Type tactics on PSP as well? I also kinda liked the Lord of the Rings tactics game, too.

I believe that G&G game would be uncommon now, but I remember that they were practically giving them away back in the day. Same with the two Powerstone PSP games, you never see either of those anymore.

Yeah, it's called R-Type Command. It's been awhile since I've played it. I got my copy from a 2nd and Charles in Beaumont Texas a little over a year ago for $7.

I got my ($5) copy of Power Stone Collection (both games are on the disc) from a Fry's used game section several years ago. Honestly, those used games look like they were brand new.

I got a ton of PSP games when everyone was clearing them out about 4 or 5 years ago. It's one of the systems that I have the most games for, and there are a ton of great titles for what I consider the greatest handheld ever.

Phantasy Star Portable 1, 2, and Infinity were all pretty good Online RPGs. I also really enjoyed the ports of Final Fantasy 1 and 2 and the remake of Star Ocean 1.

That's the Japanese name for the game. It's called R-Type Command in North America.

So Star Ocean 1 remake worked out alright for you, good. Was thinking of it.

Lots of great suggestions. LocoRoco 2 in particular is amazing and good enough for me to have picked up the official soundtrack after getting into it. The only one I can think of which hasn't been mentioned yet is Jeanne d'Arc. I think that's probably my favorite strategy RPG.

PSP is good to get right now as prices are still decent and games are readily available. I sold off my PSP collection three years ago (with a bunch of other stuff I regret) and was recently able to repurchase everything for basically the same amount which was nice, many games even being brand new. I also picked up some other games I always wanted for my PSP Go but could not get on PSN like Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast and Sega Rally.
