Halloween gaming!

Just like movies, videogames that give you a scare, or have a monster theme are a part of the month that some enjoy. I'd like to try something a little different this year.

So, here we go.


What modern game/games do you plan on playing?


Is there an older game/games that you plan on playing.


Do you have a go to favorite that you play every year?



Here's mine.

Modern:

1 - Zombie U: I just picked this up from Walmart for $9. It'll be interesting to see what this game has to offer.

2 - DOOM: I've played quite a bit of the PS4 version on rental. I have it on PC, but I'm only on about the 4th level. I plan on putting a little more time into this one once I get my 1440p monitor next Friday.


Older Games

1 - Ultimate Ghouls 'N Ghosts (PSP): I've had this game for several month now, but never got around to trying it out.

2 - Castlevania Bloodlines: I just recently got the component cable for my Genesis and it works great on my HD CRT. I haven't tried Bloodlines with the cable yet, so this month would be a perfect opportunity to do so.


My favorite go to games

1 - Vampire Savior - Lord of Vampire (Saturn): I just love this game. It's one of my favorite Capcom fighters, because of the cool characters and the music. There's only one problem. I tried firing it up today and I was having disc read problems. I cleaned the drive lens and the disc and after about a half dozen tries I was finally able to play it. I got to about the 4th match and the game couldn't read the disc. I hope my drive isn't failing.

2 - House of the Dead (Saturn): It's still a cool light gun game, even though the Saturn port isn't the greatest. All of the gameplay is there though, and that's what counts.

I have Return to Castle Wolfenstein on Steam and I think it's the perfect time to revisit it.
I also have had Alien Resurrection (PS1) in my queue for some time and I plan to play it again in the next few days.

From modern to more classic;


Dead Space 1 - scariest game I've played.

Dead space 2 - there's this one chapter that scared the heck out of me more then any other videogame, and all I was doing was tip toeing like crazy... this tip toeing went on for quite awhile before anything actually happened and that anticipation was the scariest part. I really didn't want to be there. And if you played DS1, you know what place I'm talking about.

Resident Evil 1 (PS1 and not the Directors Cut with terrible soundtrack) - loved this game back in the day. Everyone says RE2 is the best, but not me. Just because I prefer the atmosphere of RE1 better. But the second quest of RE2 scared the heck out of me back in the day because of you know who. That's right, Mr Coolaid Man himself.

Castlevania III (US) - best Castlevania ever. Nuff said.

Call of Duty zombies 4-player is always fun during Halloween. I'm not really in to the recent ones, but World at War and the first Black Ops had great maps.
For retro (and some modern): Castlevania, Ghouls and Ghosts, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. The whole series of them.

If you're having a party, it would be fun to surprise everyone with Typing of the Dead on Dreamcast, especially if you have multiple Dreamcast keyboards.

In celebration of the SNES Classic, I’m going to be playing Super Castlevania IV and Super Ghouls N Ghosts.

I’m also currently playing Little Red Riding Hood: Zombie BBQ on the DS, as well as Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirrors of Fate on the 3DS.

I do it every year. ;)

I already plan on playing Decap Attack along side my Kid Kool and Psycho Fox runs, so I guess that works. Maybe I'll finally devote some time to actually playing Haunting, too.

I wasn't able to beat Nightmare on Elm Street for the NES last year. I made it to the final boss gauntlet a couple times, but couldn't finish the job. Freddy is going down this October. It's an awesome game that gets a bad rap for some reason. Probably because it's a licensed game that was published by LJN, but the Rare development team did little to no wrong on the NES, and this one Is no exception in my opinion.

I've also got a stack of horror movies to go through this October. I've been picking up horror DVDs I haven't seen when coming across them for cheap over the past few months. Off the top of my head, Texas Chainsaw Massacre parts 2 and 3, Psycho 2-4, Son and Ghost of Frankenstein, Dawn and Day of the Dead (already owned the originals in all of those series, and wanted to see some gnarly sequels. Alien, Shocker, and a few others I forget. It's that time of year again.

It'll be House Of The Dead Overkill for me. Love that mother@&*$ing sh#'!

I have a Halloween tradition where I beat all 4 Splatterhouse games in a huge marathon.

Lol, I love that game so much. Never played the PS3 version though, just the Wii.


As for Halloween gaming I played through The Bunker and enjoyed it, have just started The Evil Within and I'm hoping for some interesting stuff.

One Halloween game I'd love to beat one of these days is Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts. Was the 4th SNES game I seen played at someones place in person back when the SNES was new, therefore has a lot sentimental value to me, as do most first generation SNES games.

Been thinking about this for a bit now and think I've found the perfect Halloween game for me to maybe beat this month once it gets closer to Halloween. Resident Evil 3, because I never actually beat it and recall really loving it, more then RE2 (but not as much as RE1). It was a borrowed copy of brothers friend and made it as far the cemetery, but couldn't figure out what to do to progress to final area. The thought that maybe I missed an item or possibly even a soft lock discouraged me from finishing (this was back before 'help me internet' days).

Also would be nice if I could find something Halloween themed for Genesis in case Melf gets all caught up for Readers thing (though doubt it and this should be last thing on his mind). Is Golden Axe II Halloween themed enough? If not, I'm open to suggestions.
