To bring this shitshow back around to the actual topic.

The SC games are not really masterful and complex fighting games, etc. They were fun and very "arcadey" in feel. And the later iterations had the "make a fighter" feature that led to them being pretty fun when at parties or with groups of people and such.

I've never really seen any group take is as seriously as something like Street Fighter or Tekken, although I'm sure someone does. Nor is it as big a "party" fighting game like Melee... but I blame that more on the fact that Nintendo games tend to be pretty big among crowds like that (Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party, etc).

Wouldn't a Switch port be sort of like original Game Boy's port of Mortal Kombat?

No, the switch isn't THAT underpowered. But really until we can see just how demanding it it, it's hard to say what would be sacrificed.

I really don't understand the complaints/surprise.

Nintendo sells potato hardware for a premium price and people buy it to play the nth iteration of a half-dozen of Nintendo IPs.
Companies developing software for the real actual generation don't want to deal with potato hardware and don't release their games for Nintendo shitty platforms.
People get angry with those companies and not with Nintendo.

It really doesn't make sense to me and every generation since the Wii is the same shit.

This doesn't really look like a huge leap over the PS360 versions, so I don't see why a Switch version couldn't be put together if they chose.
For all we know, it could be announced a few months down the line. My wish would be for a usable Dpad on the joy cons.

Actually I've been messing around with Soul Calibur V the last couple of days and it's still looks beautiful (and plays super smooth, IV seemed a bit stiff in comparison last time I tried it), and I'm not sure what else Namco could really add to the game to improve it. The series seems to have reached the apex of it's evolution in terms of the core system so I'd be interested to see what they come up with. Graphically the game can't get much better without a bigger budget IMO, and it looks like the visual design will remain the same anyway (fine by me).

New characters/styles are obviously a given, although I guess they'll drop Patroklos, Hilde etc to make way for the new storyline. As long as Lizard Man makes his usual return I'll be happy.

I thought the new additions to SCV were very good so Namco needs to get creative with some new and interesting weapon styles.

I always blame Nintendo for that.
I've said it time and again they need to shit or get off the pot. The Switch honestly should have been a pure portable that can just happen to hook into a TV. Just abandon the home market and go off to do their own thing... OR release hardware that is actually competitive. Sony and MS, neither one of them "make" their own hardware anymore. Nintendo could do the exact same shit. Work with the big vendors to design a system around the specs they want. It doesn't need to be the most powerful. It just needs to be sitting at the same table. Instead they let themselves sit at the kids table off in the other room.

Who can blame a company for not porting a full current gen game to the Switch, Wii-u, or Wii? Everything about it will, 99.99% of the time, be inferior. Almost no one would buy that version over literally any other version. It's no fault of those companies that they know this. It certainly doesn't help when the port is also a lazy and/or half assed one. But even the best port possible is still going to be inferior.

That leaves the only viable ports as indies and games that just are not all that demanding.

SCVI is no different. It's using the unreal engine, so they could absolutely port it to the switch, but it's almost certain the game would take a hit from where it is even on the base XB1/PS4 versions in terms of texture quality, resolution, and possibly effects.

I have great vibes for this one considering how good they did with Tekken 7. Since they are taking the timeline from Soulcalibur 1/2 I hope they bring back the mechanics from these two and ignore 4/5.
Also, less effort in the character creation and more in the gameplay.

Honestly they both should have gotten a time out but I'm just going to chalk it up to emotions and leave it at that. I have a rule generally that as long as members keep their arguments between themselves and don't drag family members or people who can't defend themselves then I'll let it slide for the most part.
