Great gameplay. Nothing to complain about. Did I mention the rewind feature makes it just dumb fun? Loving it!

I still won't consider the Genesis version beaten; but this one is definitely now behind me. Still as awesome as ever! Badass soundtrack. Amazing graphics. Excellent gameplay made even more fun with an analog stick and THE REWIND BUTTON!!!
Gunbird 2-Switch.
I have been wanting the game on DC for over a decade but it's so pricey. So now I played it for the first time and finished it with all characters. Love it. The music is esp great. That 90s midi sound is something I miss. My fave era of gaming music. I liked it more than the first and I loved both.
Nemesis - GameBoy (1990)

Been playing this today on the PSP. First was on PC hooked to HDTV, but this game's input lag is so bad, moved onto PSP to help by alleviating HDTV delay. Took a few quick tries to warmup, with resets upon death, then once past stage two I basically managed to make it all the way through (5 stages) resulting in a very easy no miss. Got a rude awakening loop 2 stage 1, not that it was that hard just didn't expect such an easy game to ramp up so quick. Didn't feel satisfied with the no miss, but didn't want to start from loop 1 again, lucky you can select loop 2 type of difficulty from the get go so went to work on that. Not proud to admit this 1cc took much longer then I thought.
The game still looped afterwards but didn't notice a difficulty difference this time around, choked stage 4, the stage where 'no misses' go to die. Not going to bother no missong difficulty 2 as this game's input lag is a major drag in an otherwise fine enough game.
Gradius: The Interstellar Assault (1991)
http://www.gamespite.net/img/wiki/ga...larassault.gif
No missed loop 1, 1cc'ed loop 2, and lost focus by loop 3 with too many deaths and just gave up on stage 3 (of 4). No input lag issue as first game, but if it weren't for that lag input of the first game, I'd like it better (as is, not sure which I prefer). The first just feels more like a Gradius game while this sequel feels more like a scripted R-Type game. The stage transition cut scenes are a pace killer too.
Jeremy Parish says this game has 5 stages when it seems 4 as the practice stage select suggests (which by the way just checked and it has an excellent ship deployment animation scene a la SNES Gradius & Super R-Type). If he's counting the last stage as 2 separate stages, then he should be doing the same for stage 1, therefore 6 total stages.
As for him liking it better, well, we can't all be perfect. He just looking at it by the numbers, I go by 'feels.'
Parodious - GameBoy (1990)
https://emunova.net/game-boy/games/p...mages/main.png
Cutting it close 1cc. Got the roulette wheel powerup on that Casino stage and took a few tries recovering because the several roulette wheel powerups messed me up to losing powerups two times. Final stage was in the bag, or should have been but got that roulette wheel powerup, and while hesitant to activate, took the gameble... which of course didn't pay off. So there I was - final stretch with zero speed ups, no powerups and maybe no lives left, sweating bullets. But lucky it truly was the final stretch just before those closing doors and in true Gradius tradition - the final boss was cake. Bombed loop 2 stage 1 because... it's what I get for gambling roulette wheel.
Now this is more like it. Best representation of the Gradius feels from a level layout/gameplay/pacing/better challenge/enemy placement perspective on the GameBoy. That new exclusive to GameBoy stage was pretty cool too. If you only get one Gradius game on the GB, make it this one.

Graphics and gameplay at its finest for this game. I enjoyed it. :)
Operation C (1991)
http://www.toastyfrog.com/verbalspew...pot_opc_05.png
Took embarrassingly long to conquer, doesn't appear that hard at all, just very easy to slip up and drift off (listening to debates and podcasts in the background on YouTube doesn't help). This was a 1cc, but believe it or not that was the easiest way to beat this game just because you can tank the last boss with lives accumulated. Game has only 2 continues, so did ponder on using level select for practice, but just didn't feel right for a game of this Komani goodness caliber so did it the old fashioned way.
Took a few runs until warmed up to the run n' gun style after the less restrictive and more fun format of the shooters I've played prior, but it was good fun and is must have for GB. Though Parodius was still the best fun I've had so far on GB. Anyway, made it to loop 2 stage 3.
Are you going to attempt the GB Castlevania games?
... sorta entertaining the thought. Why, what's on your mind?
I’m just noticing the Konami trend you have going.
Castlevania Adventure is hard, and not in the “clever but devious level design” kind of way.
Fantastic music, though.
Been in the mood to play some FPS games and cover shooters recently this last month. First I played through and completed the single player campaign of Modern Warfare 3 (360). Not too much to say about this other than if you've played any of the other MW games than you'll know what to expect. It was some good shooting fun, not a lot of thinking involved.
The today I finished Army of Two (360). This looks like it going to be a Gears of War type game (well it did to me anyway ..lol) but it proved to be quite a bit different as you had to learn to use the other team member effectively if you wanted to proceed through the game (using the 2nd character to provide covering fire, while you stealthily sneak up to shoot the bad guys. My only complaint was the game was way too short, however I enjoyed it!
Castlevania: The Adventure (1989)
https://i2.wp.com/breakingcanon.com/...size=500%2C453
More like adventure in pain. You owe me big, MrMatthews.
Been hard at work at this one since yesterday night and it's now 6:19pm. Finshed off yesterday working on stage 3, which I've finally finished this morning only to get pretty stumped final stage 4. Was surprised to see even tighter timing skills required, combine with how this game is sorely missing that snappy gameplay, and had to stop there and switch to playing on my trusty PSP to eliminate input lag. Helped greatly, only of course had to do the stages all over again (two attempts at stage 2, and 3 for 3).
When finally beating Dracula it felt so good. So good. But then he turned into a bat, sigh, almost gave up right there and then. But couldn't let MrMatthews down. Several more runs through stage 4 and got a very good handle on reaching Dracula until victory was mine. Great ending tune was my reward.
Not a 1cc, pure credit feeding. While a 1cc seems pretty close in sight, feel I've spent enough time on this game. It's not that bad of a Castlevania game as they say and still far superior to Legends which is pure trash (and the only GB vania game I've previously beaten just so I could put it behind me once and for all). Main issue with The Adventure has to be eaten button inputs, can really tell they didn't get this game's code all that optimized.
I had actually played Castlevania Adventure a few nights ago. After a few hours, I eventually made it to level 4. That’s when I decided that I had made my point and turned the game off.
Castlevania Adventure is like playing Ghouls N Ghosts, except the platforming is trickier and your character speed is cut in half (which effects only you and not the enemies or their projectiles). Also, there’s a giant wall of insta-death spikes approaching constantly from behind.
Castlevania II is much better.
What got you into playing 'The Adventure' a few nights ago?
Level 4 seemed like a nice relief after so much precision platforming and being chased by insta-death spikes, but then seen that block room surrounded by spikes straight out of Mega Man. it was the most satisfying level to git gud at, so had that going for it. Overall have no regrets learning this game.
May as well try for Castlevania II next.
15. Sega Genesis Classics - Sonic the Hedgehog: Spinball - PS4

A beautiful reminder of how much I love this game. I have enjoyed it countless times on the Genesis since the 90s. I can't believe how much this version met and surpassed my every expectation, graphics, soundtrack and gameplaywise.

Indeed a different feel overall, but still a Golden Axe game. A bit stiff gameplaywise, but I enjoyed it.
Gradius NES (1986)
https://nintendotimes.com/wp-content...at-gradius.jpg
Just finished the 1cc (all stages), with a few attempts at recovering before cell boss and a crash and burn at loop 2 stage 1 (was distracted and got sniped by suicide bullet from core boss). Don't got much to say about this one other then it's got one of my most fave gaming cover art and that I might prefer NES Life Force more.
Life Force NES > Gradius NES
Gradius... I was playing that one for a little while a few (or more?) months ago. It seems like it's a game you pretty much have to 1cc because you just fall way too far behind if you die after you've made any sort of progress. It's a game I'll have to revisit at some point.
To interrupt Thief's and Quick's competition:
13. Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - 3DS
This game was one of the main reasons I acquired a 3DS, and I finally got around to playing (well, finishing) it. Back in the day after I beat SMT: Nocturne for the first time, I remember reading on a forum that some guy who also loved Nocturne said that he still hasn't played a game that has lived up to Soul Hackers and that it was a shame it never made it stateside. Granted, I don't agree with him that Soul Hackers is better, but it is a solid game. I wouldn't be surprised if certain changes were made to the game (Persona-fied voice acting was definitely present, which makes the overall experience worse for me. I hold the opinion that no voice acting is better than bad voice acting though.) The gameplay was solid though and there were definitely some things that this game did better than Nocturne - most notably demon negotiations and the fact that there are no random encounters when it makes sense that there shouldn't be.
14. Mick and Mack as the Global Gladiators - Genesis
I felt like playing something completely different from Soul Hackers and kind of randomly chose this. This game is actually much better than I thought it would be, and even though I have some issues with it, the game would probably be too easy if they were changed without different changes to go along with them.
Gradius PCE (1991)
https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20110214000302
1cc, with recoveries on Moi and final stage. Again bombed loop 2 stage 1, meh.
That one exclusive stage to this port (pictured) is ok. The hit box of your blue lazer is noticeably wider then Arcade version and the double shots shot twice in each direction in comparison to Arcade only once per volley (if memory serves correct. Will soon verify as Arcade version is next). Played this on the PSP and quite a few times ruined runs by reaching for the pause button as it's so close to select button, and pause to select boots you back to title screen (an otherwise handy feature).
Working on the last 2 commanders in Wolfenstein II but finished the main game. First Wolfenstein game I played since Wolfenstein 3D back in the 90s. Really enjoyed it. I shot some nazis while poopin.
Gradius PSP (1985, 2006)
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/bEsI56kRR78/maxresdefault.jpg
Surprisingly this was quite a bit harder then the PCE version, just got the 1cc with recoveries on stage 2, Moi and final. And yes, died loop 2 stage 1, nothing new under the sun. Was also correct in that your double shots should only shot a single volley, unlike on PCE. Eventually settled on switching lazer to double from stage 2 onward anyway.
Don't got much to say, never was the biggest fan of the first Gradius. The way the Options move in this first outing is very strange too and they don't spread out enough at 2 speeds ups. (EDIT - played with Arcade setting, difficulty and hit-box)
18. Sega Genesis Classics - Virtua Fighter - PS4
https://i.imgur.com/5J0npiq.jpg
Dafuq is this abomination? :daze:
It was never good to begin with. I can understand this being a Sega franchise, but this has no place on a Genesis compilation when there are literally hundreds of better games on the system. That, and the fact that this is a horrendous port. That final "bonus stage" had the worst lag I have ever experienced in my entire history of gaming. :?
Parodius PCE (1992)
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/gjh4HWotkTs/hqdefault.jpg
After having such a great time with the GameBoy version of the game, just had to have another go at a Parodius game. Normally only played the Parodius games casually, but a flame has been kindled.
Alright, another 1cc down (w/ Octopus ship). Though when reaching for the pause button on my PSP pre loop 2 stage 1 boss, accidentally mashed the select button too for the upteenth time, resulting in being send back to the title screen. Ce la vie. Now that I think about it, could have remapped the buttons. Only issue had with the PSP PCE emulation was noticeable slowdown on final stage, which contributed to making things easier. Not too worried as I'm sure it'll come back with a vengence when playing the SNES version (not sure if next, might play some Bloodborne or Dark Souls to take advantage of more people online for weekend. Got good herb and not sure what else to waste it on. Also had one session of Gradius II PSP yesterday and it was awesome, so some Gradius is in the cards too).
Problems? Well missing parallax on some stages really made distinguishing background from foreground hard sometimes (volcano stage is a good example). Another issue is geared to series as a whole, where the backgrounds are too colourful and busy sometimes, making it hard to distinguish bullets from the background (stage 2 is a great example of this where there are yellow stars in the background and this game uses yellow coloured enemy fire). You see, the dev teams of the Gradius games made the far background layers not stand out on purpose for this very reason.
Parodius SNES (1992)
https://r.mprd.se/media/images/34885...(Europe)-6.jpg
Finally, 1cc, guess all it took was some food in my tummy. Broke a 2 day water fast this morning then everything started falling into place. This game is certainly harder then PCE version with more bullets on screen for default difficulty and more suicide bullets loop 2 (yes, died loop 2 stage 1 again). Also this game adds an exclusive stage (very easy) and a stage the PCE version was missing (ice water cave), adding to to difficulty by being more of an endurance.
Still not a fan of how colourful and everything blends in look, especially emulating this on the small PSP screen. That octopus character I was playing as makes matters worse with his options being a red colour too. Did try all ships, mostly Vic Vipe and octopus since not a fan of the options always following into the other two ships, but today put the focus on octopuss and that's who got me the win.
Also switched from 4:3 aspect ratio to 1:1 because noticed the programmers didn't account for stretch for speed in ship, which makes horizontal ship movement axis faster in 4:3. Otherwise always prefer playing in 4:3 aspect ratio for these old CRT games.
Shining Resonance Refrain. It's an Enjoyable JRPG but it's pretty cliche and doesn't do anything to stand out outside of you get to turn into a Dragon anytime you want in battle. Music is nice but not that memorable. It has odd difficulty spikes and is a grind heavy game. Enemies level up with you and sometimes surpass you. It's a fun game but maybe enjoyed better on the Switch atm since it's still fairly new and for those hungry for more JRPGs on the system. Granted Octopath came out the same week. Tho Ys VIII or Xenoblade 2 are also better games. I think this game is just for those who are really dedicated JRPG fans. Does nothing new but what is there is fun.
I actually enjoy a good grinder. Keeps me honest.
I just finished Shenmue II. What a cliffhanger!!!! Yu Suzuki is cruel.
Silent Hill (PSX)
http://i67.tinypic.com/2gv32tv.jpg
Played through the uncensored, US release. Real good game. Plot goes bonkers towards the end with silly cults and gods and other such crap, but the game is solid. Played through the game with a Sega Saturn controller as well, which works amazingly well with the tank controls.
Did you know the game is full of references to Kindergarten Cop? Everything in the elementary school from the bus to the school to the posters on the wall is right out of that film.

^ Yeah, I already know that one. Massive fan of the original games. Other interesting tidbits: roads in the game are named after horror writers, plus some shops and signs have quite a few references to their works. Content on the disc that's not used is an image of Pennywise from IT, plus other nods to King's work in the textures files:
