Incredibly lazy mistake for an incredibly lazy game.
Omg!
No controls though...yet.
Epic, just epic.
I hope Sega responds to this by actually releasing the game on Steam, my pc steering wheel feels really lonely.
Gear shift controls implemented.
It's awesome.

Downloaded it from UseNet, gonna try to get it working with my G27 wheel soon.
It hangs on Network connecting, then crashes to desktop for me. :(
Has the shell.exe execute successfully? (GameSettings.ini has to be generated by it, for an example)
The shell.exe will trigger the test menu and that one requires 1080p resolution to run, no matter what changes you make to the .ini files.
Later on such stupid requirements may be hacked out as well, but that may take some time.
Oh, OK, I think I've managed to find a way to bypass the 1080p requirement:
- Set shell.exe to run in compatibility mode (Windows 95 OR Window 98 SE/ME; both seem to work).
- Run shell.exe
It will kinda fail but it will generate most files you need.
The go to C:\Sega\ShellData and:
- Create GameSettings.ini
- Open it and paste:
- Save the file.Code:[GameSettings]

Now check the ShellData.ini file in the same directory.
- It has to have the following options set as follows:
Code:[Credit]
Freeplay = 1
[Network]
CabinetID=1
NumCabinets=1
Try to run Daytona.exe now.
You're a lifesaver, Barone. Thank you! Shell.exe just refused to generate those two ini fills for me, but after created both with the info you posted above, the game loaded just fine.

Thanks again, man.
Where can I get this game at?
Nice! You're welcome.
Some extra tips:
- You can prevent the webcam from starting if you disable it in the Windows' Device Manager (of course, it will break Network play but I think must of people here will not use it).
- If you edit the config.ini file you can use this to increase performance:
You can go from the original (IIRC):Code:[Render]
ENABLE_DYNAMIC_RESOLUTION = 1
DYNAMIC_RESOLUTION_MAX = <MAX>
DYNAMIC_RESOLUTION_MIN = <MIN>
ENABLE_DYNAMIC_MSAA = 0
ENABLE_DYNAMIC_BAKE_FREQUENCY = 0
<MAX> = 1920
<MIN> = 1080
All the way down to something like:
<MAX> = 64
<MIN> = 64
At which point the image you get is this (I'm not kidding):

By the way, with those values set to 320 and 240 the game looks like a N64 title. ;)

I'm still suffering with twitchy steering using the XBox 360 controller.
Are you using the controls patcher from arcadecontrols (are you able to use a manual transmission)? If so, the twitchy steering should be corrected. I attached the launcher here just in case.Quote:

Sega. I'm not even kidding. Install the D2K driver, run shell.exe, rename Update directory to Daytona, run the launcher and you're done. If you don't have xinput, you have to use x360ce for 32-bit as usual. Tick all the 32-bit DLLs on the left hand side of game options.Quote:

The game runs 100% for me. Everything works, and it's super fun! There are some really neat touches, like the statue of Jeffry being replaced with a statue of Akira, and the shuttle actually launching in Sea Side Street Galaxy, among others.

NVM Barone got me.
I read somewhere that there's a Model2 emulator being used at the core of the game, wonder if that's true.
You can adjust the dead zone in the patcher's ini.
I had already tried it and it didn't solve the problem for me, but then I began to use x360ce and I managed to adjust the analog steering curve as I wanted.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
Glad to hear it.
anyone got the download link for the game? PM? :rolleyes:
They had a lot of small faqs and explanations on how to set up shit, really made me think the downloaded game doesn't work 100% right from the bat.
Does it? I never got around to trying it out. Kept waiting for the final fan loader or something.
edit : new thread
Well it does work 100%
I still want to find a proper cab to play it on!
Just got round to playing this, I think the criticism is unwarranted it plays just like Daytona should with a nice HD look.
OK the new courses don’t exactly scream classic Sega. But I’m really enjoying this one.
I think the criticism was that Sega had hyped it up to have more stuff than it did.
They did try to claim it was gonna be a Daytona USA 3 early on and then dialed back on it later and pretended that the 3 was just a flag instead… It feels as if they had truly intended to do that but then something had gone awry halfway through and they tried to cover up by making it more of a spin-off instead.
If they used the graphics engine, added the 3 new courses, but included all the courses from Daytona 1, CCE, Daytona 2 and 2001 there is no reason they couldn’t have made a digital console release, that would be enough content to badge it as Daytona 3. That wouldn’t have required much addition to the budget and the additional console sales would easily have covered it.
Sega seem really wary of leveraging it’s IP’s probably still burnt from the PS2/PS3 era reimagining’s they tried.
Did anyone ever end up patching this into a workable EXE configured? I'd love to see if it would run in WINE. My GPU is most likely too old but I'd still like to give it a spin if anyone can point me in the right direction.
The fact that this runs on PC but didn't get a PC release is beyond dumb for me. It's as if these companies would rather people pirate their games than actually buy them.
Yep, it works perfect.
