I'm genuinely curious as to your opinion - not so as to argue or disagree vehemently but just because I'm interested at what seems quite an unusual choice.

Well, you could not be more wrong. No just wrong not just disagree because your post is stupid. It's in no way a Wii U. They have nothing in common aside from being made by Nintendo. The switch is not a dual screen system. It's more powerful than Wii U. Switch has a more modern chipset than PS4 even (note said more modern not more powerful) that developers like. It uses a good API that developers like as it uses NVN but is also compatible with Vulkan and OpenGL unlike Wii U using GX2. A system that 3rd parties gae imput on the hardware and Nintendo listened and they did not design but let Nvidia design everything and DenA on the systems online. It supports Unreal 4. It's a beast as a handheld and just a couple notches above Wii U as a console. It's a brilliant hybrid that Nomad failed at. It already has a decent size library with many good games (over 400 at this point) Developers like it and owners love it. People who are not Nintendo fans are buying it up. It's been marketed to young adults but also families with clear and good marketing that resembles Sony's since they use a team rather than one person like in the Moffit days of Wii U. It's the fastest selling console EVER in its first year. Ahead of Wii and PS4. If the majority thought it sucked it would not be selling like this. It would not be getting 3rd party support either. yes, I know SEGA rivaled with Nintendo in the 90s but it's ok to not be a child and hate a console company. You can actually like all of them. Strange concept I know. It's over get over it SEGA is a shit company in 2018 and I miss them too but still holding a grudge and hatred for any console manufacturer is beyond fucking retarded and childish. Unless you can prove to me you own a Switch I'm just going to take your hatred of the system as you old 90s bias and vast ignorance on the stystem itself.
I can name 400 but what good is it to do a list war. The stupidest form of fanboy wars which in themselves are fucking retarded. All a list war does is someone list some games and the other dismisses them because their narrow mind is made up beforehand. You made your mind up before touching the system and do not own one. So no point. If you want a list buy a system and open up Eshop yourself. When you do that I'd be happy to debate a silly old list war as if this was VGchartz. So I have nothing to list would be the follow-up response yeah? Sorry just not going to play this old pointless game of list wars.
Ok, one last post as I really need to finish getting ready lol. I can't help myself. For anything, for me to call something favorite REALLY means something as I typically don't have favorites in the sense I can actually list them. I can almost never even list 5 favorite things let alone a top 10. I just can't because so much I love. There is stuff I like love and then favorite and to be a favorite it's VERY rare. I love Genesis, but until last year I only had 3 consoles I listed as absolute faves and Genesis I love and PS4 took number 4 spot. 1st tier systems for me are elite of the elite for me personally and Genesis is just barely in that 2nd tier of I love it. Almost 1st tier but just missed the mark. Good thing is this is always subject to change. More games I experience on Genesis could put it up there as well.
I will state this is purely subjective so that means any of this can be disputed. SNES starting with the library. Genesis has many great and good games. SNES has some of the greatest games ever made.I am more of a Sonic person but SMW is possibly the best 2D platformer ever made.Sonic 1 hasn't aged too well despite my favorite Sonic is the Game Gear Sonic (nostalgia). Super Metroid is one of the few games that is possible as close to perfection as game design gets. Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are easily some of the best RPGs ever made. I love many RPGs on Genesis but FFVI and CT are just on another level. SNES, unlike NES, has a fairly low crap titles to good games rate. Personal experience I've found more on Genny. I love the six button as it's among my favorite controllers ever and it was a great way to bring the feeling of Arcade layout home. SNES shoulder pads outlasted the need for an arcade layout. Modern controllers adapted the SNES layout of four face buttons and shoulder buttons. Even SEGA did with Dreamcast. I love the Genesis bass in games but I'm sorry the SOny designed SNES sound chip is still to this day a modern wonder. SNES games with full voice in songs and felt so close to an orchestra at times out of a cart. Nintendo was very smart to design the system years in advance for the FX chip. Genesis tried but not as well. Mode 7 and such still are a feat. I feel 2D games of SNES as a general rule with exceptions hold up better for sprite art than most Genesis games. I feel Nintendo has designed 3 consoles with near perfection in how easy it was to program for and thinking ahead and down to efficiency that SEGA never really did. SNES, Gamecube, and Switch. The switch is executed in idea and practice so brilliantly, ok they really have Nvidia this time to thank. Gamecube just on hardware was a tank and had perfect heat distribution. Now DC is still the most ahead f it's time console ever made. I fully credit SEGA for the first hybrid console in Nomad but it had some big problems. SNES from its library to the hardware itself has aged very well and truly a work of art on both fronts in my eyes. Dreamcast my favorite system ever was a suped up system with every idea thrown on it but it was a bit unstable. SEGA never did design a system as solid as Nintendo did. (tho Wii and Wii U were kinda eh on build quality)
SNES was and still is a pain in the ass to develop for. Which is why there is so little homebrew for it. It was worse bitd, as developers had to mail sound samples to Nintendo to be converted and whatever they happened to get back is what they had to work with. Rom sizes inflated by space eaten up by all sound being sampled based, combined with Nintendo gouging publishers on carts, led to most games being noticeably compromised for space. Approaching existing 16-bit console game standards with sprites required gymnastics that weren't necessary for the other other consoles and it couldn't compete with the kind of action that had been standard for years before it launched. The sound has a similar bottleneck and sound effects or instruments had to be compromised for a game to have both. So sound and voice effects were usually distorted and chopped up in various ways before being pitch shifted out of tune.
It was a neat novelty when SNES games did their version of orchestral, but again, CD music had been standard for years already. Nintendo wasn't smart to offer the only two consoles to date from the PC Engine onward without disc based games. Selling processing power within individual games purchases on top of already being the most expensive games in the market was only good for their own profits. It sucked for both developers and game fans like myself who had to pay much more for domestics SNES RPGs than RPGs imported from Japan.
Good-to-crap ratios are meaningless and all that matters is worthwhile games themselves (which the SNES has enough of). The Nomad wasn't the first "hybrid console", but it was great to have and the best portable game experience at the time.
I'm guessing that the Dreamcast was simply your first console for you to believe that it "is still the most ahead f it's time console ever made" and that you have never even heard of the Famicom.
Taste is subjective, so I won't bother addressing your stereotypical interpretations of popular games. There's not much point, since "greatest and best ever" mantras are the hallmarks of superficial gamers who are influenced more by what "everybody knows". You literally reverse engineered this post from the perspective of <Nintendo... immediately after lashing out at others for being "The stupidest form of fanboy wars which in themselves are fucking retarded."
If you can get past your own console war goggles, you'd be surprised what individual games have to offer, regardless of what library their from.
I have been gaming since te the mid-80s so no Dreamcast was not my first console but I love DC for it was way ahead of its time in many features. People often mention only or PSO but I like to also think how Dreameye had a video sharing service. People say Nintendo had the idea of GBA to Gamecube link but DC had that ability with Neo Geo Pocket. Dreamcast was a hodgepodge of great ideas but not totally meshed as well as it could have. The first console I played is Atari 2600 and it was Superman on Atari. First I owned was NES and it still works. I know Famicom had online and DLC as did SNES, Genesis N64, and others. N64 had DLC for Mario paint and Genesis and Nintendo had their own over the air TV game service. In fact, I want to say Atari had some ability to go online. I know DC isn't the first to have the function but it was the first where it was a focal selling point and to have games like Phantasy Star Online. I did say it was all subjective and can be disputed on SNES. Just like the topic title is subjective. There is no true best ever console but a person can have the subjective opinion there is one but no one can have the objective view of one. Made me laugh tho thinking Dreamcast was my first. lol, not even close. Was already gaming about 15 years at that point.
Cool, thanks. I think that the SNES was almost like a bridge between 16 bits and the more modern era of gaming (sound, 3D perspectives, rotation and transparency etc and I agree with your statements about controller layout), but I couldn't give it the mantle of best console ever.
I might have to give that accolade to, and I have no real fondness for it, though I'd quite like one, the Atari 2600. The X Box 1X is no different in essence: Box under the telly, hand controlled, stick games you buy in it and play them. Also, looks stylish and has mass appeal and accessibility.
if you'd seen my game room in the topic in insert coin you'd see that I have virtually every console know to man. hell I even own a wii u and think it was utter shit for what it was supposed to be and knew so beforehand but got it for the 2 games that I cared about (botw and xenoblade). switch has virtually nothing so far and pretty much nothing on it's e-store is exclusive either. so again why would switch be one of the best systems ever?
Before you call people stupid or insult people by calling them retarded, just have a think of what you said 'SNES is not my fav system, but its the greatest console of all time' How does that make any sense?.
But to get back to the Switch its had so many ports from the Wii U its not even funny and its Nintendo of old, how the GBA was more or less a pocket Snes, Mario Kart and Zelda are nothing more than simple Wii ports and as for your point of Nintendo listened...all Nintendo did was take the NVidia shield and put a Nintendo badge on it ! Yes o of course its more modern, so is any TV made in 2018, that doesn't mean the panel will be better than last years higher end models same with cheap 2018 mobile phones, so its a rather silly point, its not about when it was made, its more about the feature set inside the system that really counts. Its also not the fastest selling console of all time in its 1st year, they are regions like the UK that is simply not the case (I think its the PSP for a little inrony) , The PS2 sold a million units on day 1 in Japan, the Switch didn't come close. So we can all twist and sales figs .
The switch is a nice HH but a poor console for under the TV, that sorry isn't playing host to the best 3rd party games and what 3rd parties games it does get, are horrible cut back like Doom or Fifa and that's to be expected given the Switch is nothing more than a Tablet and the NVidia Shield, but with a Nintendo badge on it, even the silicon die is exactly the same on the CPU. Its nothing to do with its Nintendo VS SEGA. I like the Snes over the Mega Drive... an opinion for which I still get grief for on this board, from some members. If you even took the time to read the posts in this thread even, you might have seen, still some evidence from that, for the 16 bit Sega Die-Hards. So spare me the SEGA drivel, more so from an obvious Nintendo fan.
