My dad rented me horror films like all the slasher flicks and the wonderful gory 80s horror films. I loved them. It's what made me as a kid start doing makeup effects and create haunted houses with practical effects and later working in a professional one. Not only watched R rated films, I studied them.
Not everyone. I most of the time got to do whatever I wanted to do whenever I wanted to growing up in the '80s. My father's father was happy to oblige allowing me to shoot a wide assortment handguns and rifles (at a gun club) also drink beer and drive cars on the road.
But I acted like an adult.

Lol it boils down to state laws. In NY, it actually IS legal for women to walk around topless, since 1992, when some women decided to protest the laws of the time. But disappointingly, women just DON'T do that lol. Re: Kids' media: I grew up with the old Looney Tunes cartoons of unreal violence, like Road Runner, Tom & Jerry (smashing each other with pots & pans), Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck getting shot by Elmer Fudd lol. None of it ever translated to real-life IMO, and even as a kid I disliked the sickeningly-sweet Disney cartoons (Mickey Mouse & his friends having birthday parties or whatever lol). At some point, that overly harmless style became standard for kids' shows.
Actually as a kid, He-Man really pulled it off brilliantly. The show contains no real violence at all, despite the characters being warriors with swords etc. He-Man never hit anyone with his sword (he used it as a shield lol), and the guns were typically freeze-rays. The most violence would be an enemy running at a hero, and then the hero dodging so he falls into a pool of water, or something like that lol. The action-figures were great, and any violence only came from kids' imagination.
Something else funny is that I remember Street Fighter II had the new age-limit rating, so when I asked my mom if I could buy it, she said no, as if it was pornographic or something. But then she was OK with it once she realized it was nothing but cartoon-style fighting lol.
I left out the topless part.

California it's illegal to own nunchucks. They also have some strict knife laws. In Utah supposedly we have a knife law out there somewhere.:p Gun laws are pretty lax as well here where again in Cal they are pretty strict. It's legal for me to carry around a big fucking bowie knife if I wanted(I do own one but it's regular sized but I only carry around a switchblade and a pocket knife multitool). I think most the laws only equate to felons.
KA is ridiculous when it comes to laws pertaining to weapons.
IMO FPS games are far too violent. They're also far too boring, but again IMO!

Ha ha ha. Listen, the over the top horror, gore, fighting stuff, to me verges on silly. The bigger issue is with games like CoD or Battlefront, or the like, which are more wargame simulations. They're designed for realism, and I feel like those could inspire some crazies.
Truth be told, 99.99% of people calling themselves "gamers" are your usual CoD/FIFA/NFL/NBA... and add now the latest First or 3rd Person MMO shooter in fashion. Also add a popular 2D fighting game, and you've got them covered.
The vast minority are the likes of us who would enjoy a good, solid, single player campaign of some sort; let alone an RPG. And then there are many, many, many in between.
Point being made: the word "GAMES" covers a vast number of genres and types; as do "GAMERS" themselves. To say imbecilic nonsense such as "Games cause violence" is like saying "Movies cause violence" or "Music causes violence" or "TV causes violence" or "Radio causes violence". WRONG! Violent people cause violence. And they come from all backgrounds.

It would take a very realistic, very horrible game for me to consider it concerning. I read about one modern game (don't remember the name) that was based on killing people and getting points for how much they suffer in the process. THAT would possibly be a game that's worthy of censorship IMO and the game actually is banned in many countries. (Wish I could remember the name of it.)
The Doom series strikes me as a violent cartoon more than anything. Let's go shoot some monsters lol.

Hey now I agree with your points completely but don't belittle the FIFA franchise. It's possibly the only franchise that EA haven't fucked up and they actually continue to improve it every year. I don't play online or play any of that Ultimate Team stuff but I do love Career Mode where you manage your favourite club. I'm pretty addicted to it if truth be told and buy the new FIFA every year because of it and, trust me, I'm a 'real' gamer. I do get however that 'soccer' isn't exactly mega popular in the states so maybe that explains the indifference. A good comparison would probably be the also hugely popular Madden series which I've never played because, like so many Englishmen, I just don't understand American football. :pQuote:
