This is going to be a bias poll, it's too soon for most to have all three consoles. I only have the PS4 myself so no point in voting.
Mine was the DS4 until I got a Switch. The Pro is honestly the best controller I have used in 20 years. Only Saturn Gen 1 Pad rivals it for me. So comfy it even puts DS4 to shame. Smoothest analog sticks ever. Buttons are big and feel great. Has motion and NFC built into it. Charges really fast and has an insane 40-hour battery life, unlike DS4 7 hours.
I haven't played a console or used a controller from this generation.
I gotta go with the DS4 this time around, although, for once, I think all three controllers this generation are pretty good. The XB1 controller has a much improved D-pad, and it's analog sticks remain pretty good. The DS4's d-pad is probably the best of the three (for my preferences) and the analog sticks are a marked improvement over the DS3's. The Switch pro pad is pretty comparable to the XB1, though I do have to knock it for lack of analog triggers.
Can't comment on battery life...I generally leave my controllers plugged in.
Also, I don't like using the Switch joycons that much. They're serviceable and not much else.
Don't know what kind of games you've played to test that D-pad, but can't imagine the DS4 d-pad as the best. It's shape is too big this time around which highlights it's hole in the center issue more noticeable this time around. The large shape also highlights how rigid and stiff it is.
Recall The Jackal once saying he couldn't quite play Sonic Mania with that D-Pad. I couldn't play Sonic Mania with it either, had to swap to a Dual Shock 3 (via CronusMaxPlus).
That's why I qualified the d-pad part. I know people don't like how stiff it is, I personally do. I played a good bit of Sonic Mania with it, plus it's the controller that I've opted for use on my PC, so most emulated retro games I'm playing on PC, I'm using that pad. I personally don't like how squishy the DS3's d-pad is. To be fair, I didn't like the XB360's d-pad either.
Again, I don't have any major issue this time around for any of the controllers, d-pads included. I feel like they're all precise and responsive. It's down to personal preference at this point in time which is unusual.
Dual Shock 4. It's a great design that Sony, sensibly, haven't tampered with since it's original incarnation more than twenty years ago. As far as I'm concerned Sony's controllers are only beaten by Sega's six-button controller for the Mega Drive and also their controller for the Saturn.
DS4. But that start button placement...:yuck:
Absolutely. Unless I'm playing portable, I always use the Switch Pro Pad. i knock it for lack of analog triggers, and I feel like the d-pad isn't as good as it could be. In fact I think the WiiU pad actually has a bit better d-pad. The Switch Pro pad's d-pad is still better IMO, than the DS3 or XB360 d-pads.
DS4. And I don't even play PS4 that much, I mostly use the controller with my PC.
XBox One Elite controller.
I've only used the PS4 controller.... and, it's another dual shock. It's small, the thumb sticks are slippy (and painful after a while) and I don't like the mushy triggers. I think I've played with a Switch pro controller a few times, don't remember much about it. My vote went to Wii U.
+1
I like the regular one too, but the Elite just feels more solid. The Dpad is kind of clicky which I like. It's a huge step up from the 360 controller which had a big battery wart on the back.
I liked the DS1, DS2, and DS3, but they changed the shape of the DS4, and now I don't likke the way it feels in my hands.
I've only briefly played with the Switch Pro, but I liked it. It feels and plays very similarly to the XB1 controller honestly, they have such similar designs.
DS4.
As someone who hates the DS3, but loved the 360 pad, it feels odd to say it. I honestly think the XBONE controller is a massive stepback.
