Should I buy the OSSC, or the Super NT?

So right now I have an original SNES with component video output (added the mod myself, no HD Retrovision cables needed) and a Genesis 1 32X w/ S-Video (I'd use RGB instead of course for the OSSC).

I'm crossed between spending ~$200+ for the OSSC so that I can have HDMI for both my original SNES and Genesis 1 32X

Get a Super NT so that I can have 1080p, lagless direct HDMI 100% accurate FPGA SNES hardware w/ all its great features that are similar to the Hi-Def NES that I have :D

I'm leaning towards the Super NT, I don't feel like having to go out and buy a RGB cable for my Genesis, and also I'd feel like the S-Video would be going to waste on my 32X

But then again, with the OSSC I'd be getting more out of it since I'd have HDMI for both my SNES and Genesis, which would be great

OSSC for the versatility. it's a superb little unit.

I wouldn't buy the Super nt and that's mainly because Christoph is a lying scumbag. Nice system but the dude's morals are awful.

Super Nt is supposed to run slower than real hardware, similar to the original Super Gameboy, in order to line up the framerate with modern video standards. Like the Hi-Def NES, there are supposed to be other emulation issues. Regardless it's still not real hardware, which you already have. Clones only make sense for casual players who are only interested in one or two consoles.

An upscaler will let you play all 240p consoles on modern screens. A flashcart or PBC will add the SMS library to your Genesis.

Huuuuuuuh the speed difference between HDMI and NTSC is so minimal that you'd have to be a robot to notice it. Emulators are possibly worse in this aspect actually.

I agree with this. I've also been contemplating if I should just spend the money instead on an SD2SNES (I only have the first Super EverDrive w/ DSP). I already have the real SNES hardware, already have component video output on it, and an HDTV that accepts 240p component video from old consoles. I may as well focus on playing it instead of buying an upscaler or the Super NT.

While I will admit the Hi-Def NES does have some minor and major glitches that need to be fixed by Kevtris (Idk if or when he will do anymore updates though), it looks fantastic, and I saw videos of the Super NT and it looks just as fantastic also. I really like the sharp picture quality of both the Hi-Def NES and the Super NT.

I suppose I can expect the same great, sharp picture quality when plugging in my real SNES' YPbPr to the OSSC? And yeah, an OSSC will allow me to plug in RGB from my Genesis 32X into it also, giving me HDMI for two consoles instead of just one. But at the same time, I'm fairly satisfied with the video quality I have already with component from my SNES and S-Video from my 32X. Perhaps I should buy the SD2SNES instead after all.

He's the main guy behind the Nt system. Long story short he lied about some various things involving the NES nt system and ducked, dodged and avoided legit questions when he was pitching this thing. It was pretty sad how he tried to cry to the mods at NG.com when people finally got sick of him avoiding questions.


Off the top of my head two things I still remember was him never responding about a legit question of him saccing original Nintendo PPU's and him advertising the NES system as being able to play games in Stereo. Oh and his stupidly high fucking prices for small accessory's. His most current thing people are giving him shit for is the Outlandish prices he's asking for shipping. There's more I can say about the guy but if you care about giving money to an honest person vs a scumbag seller who just happens to sell an "OK" product then by all means avoid the nt.

If you have a TV that supports retro consoles over component, then I would say to just go with the Genesis component cable for now.
The SOR2 shot is my Gen1 connected directly to my 4KTV via a HD Retrovision component cable and I think that it looks fantastic.
The TMNT pics are the GEN (Top/Left) and the Super NT (Bottom/Right) and I find that which could be considered better is a matter of preference.

Of note is that these aren't even direct captures. These were taken with my Pixel 2XL camera which impacts the PQ a bit. They look even better in person.

Ah ok, yeah I've heard about the high shipping prices from YT and I've also seen the very high priced wireless controllers on his site. I will agree the Analogue NT mini is way too much money too. I've also heard about the really bad customer service if somebody has an issue with the Analogue NT mini.

Unfortunately my TV doesn't accept the Genesis component video signal for some reason, the colors are all wrong and it looses sync sometimes. But when it comes to the SNES it works just fine.

Ugh, the complexities of retro gaming on modern TV's... LOL. Mine is the opposite and plays every console except the SNES over component.

If the SNES works on your TV, what draws you to the Super NT? It does seem like an OSSC would do a lot more for you.

I'd like the Super NT if it has a lot of button combination short cuts similar to the Hi-Def NES, such as resetting the console from the controller, bringing up an on-screen menu (instead of using the small digital display on the OSSC), 1080p output, and also I like the console's small size. Another thing is I feel like I've wasted time and money on adding S-Video to my Genesis hardware if I'm just going to switch to RGB anyway.

But then again, it is worth my money more so to get an OSSC since it would mean I'd have lagless HDMI for two consoles rather than one. Although I'm not sure if 480p or 720p would be as good as 1080p on my HDTV when it comes to both picture quality and lag.

The OSSC will output 1080p too if you set it to 5x line mode, albeit with some image cropping. I haven't noticed much difference in either image quality or input lag when compared to 720p, so you should just pick whatever works best for your setup.

The Super NT to me seems more aimed towards people who want to get into SNES collecting but without the hassle of finding, repairing and maintaining original hardware. If you already have a working original SNES, I would say the OSSC gives you a lot more value both now and in the future. Like you already said yourself, it allows you to hook up more than just one console, so it's a perfect way to future-proof your retro hardware collection. The OSSC also solves basically all of the compatibility issues you may encounter with analog 240p signals on modern TV's.

Fair point, there's nothing wrong with the real hardware SNES I have now. It would make more sense to just simply hook it up to the OSSC along with my Genesis 32X hardware. Even if the 32X has S-Video, the SNES has it also anyway, and I can use S-Video on my CRT TV for whenever I'd like to play on it instead.

Definitely OSSC. You can use any 240p console with it and it will all be real hardware. That's 4+ consoles you can use vs just one Super NT. RGB cables aren't that expensive either and they are online, what do you mean you "don't feel like having to go out and buy a RGB cable for my Genesis":confused:

I have another question about the OSSC. So it's highest upscale resolution output is 720p correct? Will that introduce any lag on a native 1080p HDTV? When I set my Hi-Def NES to 720p on my HDTV, I notice it does get a tad bit more lag. So will it have a bit more lag than the Super NT at 1080p? Or does it truly have zero lag?

How much lag you get is entirely dependent on your TV. The OSSC has the same amount of latency (one scanline) no matter which upscale resolution you use. Your TV of course might apply a bunch of image filters which can add lag, so the best thing to do is set it to Game Mode (assuming it has one) and disable/reduce any remaining noise reduction, sharpening or frame interpolation filters. That way you also get the purest, best looking image.

The OSSC does go higher than 720p actually. With a 240p input signal you can output in 240p (passthru), 480p (Line2x), 720p (Line3x), 1280x960 (Line4x), 1080p (Line5x) or 1600x1200 (Line5x) resolutions. Unfortunately 1080p isn't a perfect upscale because 1080 isn't an exact multiple of 240, so you get some cropping at the top and bottom of the screen. Personally I prefer to use Line3x mode to get 720p because it just works, it looks perfectly fine and it doesn't have any noticeable impact on lag on my LG Full HD TV.

Anyone able to get PAL PS1 games to run on FW0.8? I can by adjusting 288p adv. timing V active to 300, but only on FW0.7.

I'd go with an OSSC, but the Super NT is also mighty tempting. Get yourself some more consoles and the OSSC is a no-brainer.
