Build a Scart Distribution Box for Gaming Room

Hi all,

i would like your help for building a Scart Video Switcherfor my future Gaming Room.

My question is quite simple:

Can i connect all the Scart socket IN together to one Scart socket Out? I want to build a 10 to 1 Scart switcher.

I read somewhere that if i'm connecting all the video game console together to a simple Scart Switcher 0 to 1, i will get interference on th TV because of the others consoles.Is it right?

If Yes, what if i'm using the Pin 8 of the scart cable to "switch off or on" the relevant console? it can help?

If I was you I'd try and make contact with superg on SHMUPS! He built the GSCARTSw and is a real boffin. He's got an online store as well.

10:1 seems kind of crazy though, that's a lot of hookups.

Hey Dadou, should have responded a bit sooner, sorry.
As far as I know, the biggest mechanical switcher is 5 ports, the biggest powered switcher is 6x2 (2 outs) from shinybow, SB-5525.
Then you have superG products but they top at 8 inputs.
There's also Hydra products, but they are also expensive.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can DIY a solution based on benheck work with CBT3244 (note that CBT3245 are more suited for RGBS-LR applications.

I stopped at 8 inputs (and 2 outs using a THS7374 circuit), but the rotary switch I found has up to 12 positions...

I will do like you did 8:1 switcher. Do you have a diagram of the connection to scart connector to the CBT3244 chip?

TmEE - Looking good!

The CBT3244 has 2 pairs of 4 inputs/outputs. It's nice for composite or svideo + L/R sound, but if you want to use it with RGBS+LR, it's starting to be a bit annoying.
The CBT3245 has 8 inputs/outputs, all controlled with 1 pin, so it's more adapted, but you then need 1 for each input. You can find the datasheet very easily.

I choose to input R,G,B,S,L,R and Fast Blanking (FB), which are scart pins 15,11,7,20,6,4,16 respectively.
I did not wire pin 8 (AV switch) because the CBT3245 only supports 7v at maximum, and some console can send 12v. In any case you can easily switch on AV channel on TVs, and it's not needed on monitors like PVM.
I did wire pin 16 (fast blanking) because many TVs don't have an option to force RGB mode. The maximum voltage is 3v so it's good (as long as the scart cable is correctly done, usually a resistor between pins 8 and 16). Again it's not needed on monitors.
If you plan use a female scart as output, remember you need to invert S, L, R as these channels are bidirectional.

You can add inputs up to 12 with the rotary switch I use, and in case you use less there's a stopper you can adjust so you don't go over unused positions.
Maybe you could workout a controller for autodetect / autoswitch, but as I said I'm not that kind of guy, I'm more of a hackjob type, and the rotary switch was just the perfect solution for me.

Ive got a few of the good quality push button switch SCART boxes, they have 3 in and 1 out, and i make short one way SCART leads to go between them out of high end shielded VGA leads.

Even after going through 4 of them there is no noticable signal drop off, and signal degradation is very noticable on a 125" screen when youre using one of the best CRT projectors ever made, you can very easily tell the difference between a good SCART cable and a crap one.
