I have some games with nasty sticker residue on the packaging. Specifically, couple with sticker glue on cart cases, one with glue on the cart sticker, several with sticker glue on cd cases and one new shrinkwrapped game with glue all over the shrinkwrap. How do I clean this glue without damaging what's under it?
Isopropyl alcohol is quite inert for that kind of job.
Two passes. Goo Gone and then glass cleaner or just water. Because goo gone also leaves a residue. I no longer use Isopropyl alchohol (aka rubbing alchohol) due to how it can damage things underneath a label. For example, such liquids are useless to remove labels from cardboard.
I use a hair dryer to get them off and goo gone on the residue. Just a dab on paper towel then once the residue is gone wipe it dry. Careful as Goo gone can eat plastic.
It's an adhesive and I use WD40 than clean off the oil with either a bar of hand soap and water or glass cleaner but there are other better options like Goo Gone Adhesive Remover.
I found this recently on the Tube.
^ All you need is a single dab of Goo-gone on a paper towel, wipe it gently then wipe it dry. It's really simple.

Never. The idea alone of using baking soda is not something I would want to use.
The thing about removing adhesive is mostly breaking the bound between the surface and what it's stuck to. So using a oil of some kind 1. brakes this bound and gets between the bound 2. dissolves the adhesive and makes it easier whip off.
Hell sometimes I can just use the oil from my skin and rub with my finger to remove it while using towel too.
Nah, I'd rather buy a bottle for a dollar that lasts me a few years instead of make that big mess.
Goo Gone. Save yourself the trouble.
Do NOT use alcohol.
I remove the glue residue with Goo Gone and a paper towel, and then use a microfiber towel to remove the GG residue.

I see, but it's not like corrosive or unsafe though is it? I hope not, I've advised and used it before! Not good for paper of course.
